6.5 Million Americans Paid a Fine Rather than sign up for Obamacare Coverage!

6.5 Million Americans Paid a Fine Rather than sign up for Obamacare Coverage
Ballotpedia The Encyclopedia of American Politics ^ | August 9, 2017 | Scott Rasmussen

The individual healthcare mandate requires every American to buy health insurance or pay a fine. In 2016, 6.5 million Americans chose to pay the fine rather than sign up for insurance on the Obamacare exchanges...
In addition to those who pay the fine rather than buy the mandated levels of insurance, 15 million people would drop their Obamacare coverage if it were legal to do so.
This does not necessarily mean that these individuals want to go without insurance. Obamacare requires every insurance policy to cover a set of what it defines as Essential Health Benefits.[2] The more benefits that a plan covers, the more expensive it is. Some people might prefer to buy less comprehensive insurance at a lower cost. For example, one option might be to buy insurance only for major healthcare costs such as surgeries or hospitalizations.
Since most Americans receive health insurance from their employer, the rising cost of healthcare is a key factor holding down wage growth. If the cost of benefits were the same today as a generation ago, the average pay for full-time workers would be more than $3,300 higher annually. Some people might prefer a bigger paycheck and less comprehensive coverage.
He notes that “only about 40 percent of those eligible for subsidies have signed up for coverage. In what other business or government program would such a dismal acceptance by those it was targeted to serve be considered a success?”[1]

TRUMP GOT YOUR TONGUE, MEDIA? ^ | August 9, 2017 | Ann Coulter

The current issue of Newsweek (yes, it's still in business!) has a picture of President Trump sitting in a recliner, with snacks and an iPad in his lap, pointing his TV remote at the viewer, blazoned with the headline, "Lazy Boy."
Liberals only wish.
Last week, the president joined Sens. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and David Perdue (R-Ga.) to announce legislation that would make seminal changes to our immigration laws for the first time in more than half a century, profoundly affecting the entire country.
The media have chosen not to cover the RAISE Act (Reforming American Immigration for Strong Employment). This bill is their worst nightmare.
Instead of admitting immigrants on the basis of often specious "family" ties, the bill would finally allow us to choose the immigrants we want, based on merit, with points granted for skills, English proficiency, advanced degrees, actual job offers and so on.
Most Americans have no idea that we have zero say about the vast majority of immigrants pouring into our country. Two-thirds of all legal immigrants get in not because we want them -- or even because Mark Zuckerberg wants them -- but under idiotic "family reunification" laws.
The most important provision of the RAISE Act would define "family" the way most Americans think of it: your spouse and minor children.
Unfortunately, that's not how the Third World thinks of "family." In tribal societies, "family" means the whole extended clan -- adult siblings, elderly parents and brothers-in-law, plus all their adult siblings and elderly parents, and so on, ad infinitum.
Entire tribes of immigrants are able to bully their way in and, as legal immigrants, are immediately eligible for a whole panoply of government benefits. ...

National Security Adviser McMaster ‘Disqualified’ By ‘Rank Insubordination To The President’

Breitbart ^ | 08/09/17 | John Hayward

President Frank Gaffney on Wednesday’s Breitbart News Daily about National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, who has been criticized for firing opponents of the Iran nuclear deal and being out-of-step with President Trump’s security policy in several areas.

Gaffney said he is “very much of the view that he’s the wrong man in that job at this time.”
He argued that a clear case for “rank insubordination to the president” could be made against McMaster, citing his rejection of the term “radical Islamic terrorism,” which the president has repeatedly indicated he thinks is appropriate,” along with “policy differences on everything from Iran and Qatar and Syria and Afghanistan and Israel and the Muslim Brotherhood.”
Gaffney also agreed with Kassam that McMaster is “purging of the relatively few people who have been truly in the Trump camp who have worked for him, who have supported his policies, who have tried to help him advance them.”
“He has been surrounding the president with people who disagree with the president, in some cases, quite vehemently,” Gaffney observed. “Former Obama people, holdovers if you will, he refuses to acknowledge that that’s what they are. They agree with McMaster but are not supporting the president’s policies. Some of them, again, brought in, I think, for the purposes of opposing them.”
“I think this is nothing short of a coup d’etat, in terms at least of the president’s foreign and defense policies. They have been subverted by his National Security adviser and his minions. It must stop,” he declared.

Gangsters with Guns Threaten to Assassinate Trump Over Their “Mama’s Food Stamps, B*tch!”

thegatewaypundit ^ | Jim Hoft

The USDA reported this week that 1.1 million people have dropped off the food stamp lists since the beginning of the year.

According to Breitbart, participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) dropped to 41,496,255 in May 2017, the most recent data available from the USDA, from 42,691,363 in January 2017 when Trump took office.

To most Americans that was welcome news. But not to this group of gangsters.

These young men flashing guns released a video threatening to assassinate President Trump for taking their mama’s food stamps.

Gangsta with gun: I really want to go to war with Donald Trump because Donald Trump wants to take food stamps from my mama. And that’s all the f*ck she got, b*tch.

Chicago Burglar In ICE Custody Has “Interesting” History

Hotair ^ | August 9,2017 | Jazz Shaw

Perhaps Chickshit Mayor Emanuel will want to take a quick second look at some of his policies. He wants Chicago to turn a blind eye to illegal aliens in their midst, effectively aiding and abetting them in their efforts to avoid deportation.

But does he feel that way about Jose Cruz Morales-Cortes? Mr. Morales-Cortes somehow failed to take advantage of Chicago’s “welcoming city” policies and has wound up in ICE custody. But not before allegedly committing a string of armed robberies. What makes this individual even more interesting is that we’ve already booted him out of the country twice. (CBS Chicago)

Chicago burglar in ICE custody has "interesting" history A man who has been deported from the United States twice was indicted last week for six robberies in Chicago and several suburbs since December.

Jose Cruz Morales-Cortes, 45, was indicted on six counts of robbery on Aug. 1, according to a statement from the FBI.
Morales-Cortes, of Gary, Indiana, was deported for being in the country illegally on March 26, 2004 and again on Aug. 29, 2016, the FBI said. He was caught in the country again on Jan 20, 2017, and was in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement when he was indicted for the robberies.

Chambers also added that military veterans are not allowed either.  His gym is often a gathering spot in the community, and a place where activists meet.

Democrats, Start Aiming for the Gut

New York Times ^ | August 8, 2017 | by Thomas L. Friedman

... With the Dow at 22,000 and unemployment at 4.3 percent, oh my God, this guy could actually become more popular outside his base without much effort. That’s scary.

Democrats would be wise not to count on Robert Mueller taking him down. Whatever happens, Democrats need to win the argument with at least some Trump/G.O.P. voters.
Trump connects with gut issues and takes them in a destructive direction. It’s vital for Democrats to connect with them and take them in a constructive direction.
What issues? Here’s my list:

• We can’t take in every immigrant who wants to come here; we need, metaphorically speaking, a high wall that assures Americans we can control our border.
• The Muslim world does have a problem with pluralism — gender pluralism, religious pluralism and intellectual pluralism — and suggesting that terrorism has nothing to do with that fact is naïve; countering violent extremism means constructively engaging with Muslim leaders on this issue.
• Americans want a president focused on growing the economic pie, not just redistributing it. We do have a trade problem with China, which has reformed and closed instead of reformed and opened. We have an even bigger problem with automation wiping out middle-skilled work and we need to generate more blue-collar jobs to anchor communities.
• Political correctness on college campuses has run ridiculously riot. Americans want leaders to be comfortable expressing patriotism and love of country when globalization is erasing national identities. America is not perfect, but it is, more often than not, a force for good in the world.
Trump’s core base is solid, but he’s clearly losing the soft support around his core. Democrats can grow into the soft support — as long as they’re smart and Trump continues to just swell.

Overlooked class action against Democratic Party and Wasserman Schultz turns nasty! ^ | July 26, 2017 | Francisco Alvarado

An ongoing legal battle playing out in Fort Lauderdale federal court over the Democratic National Committee’s presidential nominating process has devolved into accusations of harassment and intimidation conducted by unknown political operatives.

Last month, an attorney representing 150 Democratic voters in a little-noticed class action lawsuit against the DNC and its former chairwoman, U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, sought court-ordered security guards for himself, his clients, and his co-counsels and their employees following a string of bizarre incidents in June, including strange phone calls and emails by individuals disguising their voices and a mysterious break-in at the home of one of the plaintiffs.
On June 15, Senior U.S. District Judge William Zloch denied Fort Lauderdale lawyer Cullin O’Brien’s motion after determining that his request would overburden the U.S. Marshals Service because the plaintiffs reside in 45 states and Washington, D.C. The judge also noted that O’Brien had not provided any evidence directly linking the incidents to the DNC and Weston-based Wasserman Schultz.
“The undertaking would in all likelihood require the entire U.S. Marshals Service to direct all of its efforts and attention to this specific case,” Zloch wrote in his order. “The Court notes that plaintiffs’ motion contains absolutely no factual nexus between Defendants and the conduct set forth in the motion.”
O’Brien did not respond to two phone messages and an email request for comment. Mark Caramanica, an attorney for Wasserman Schultz, referred questions to DNC lawyers Bruce Spiva and Marc Elias, who also did not return two phone messages and emails requesting comment...

A Single-Payer Litmus Test For Democrats? Go For It!

Investor's Business Daily ^ | 8/8/2017 | Staff

Socialism: The Bernie Sanders wing of the Democratic Party could mount primary challenges against candidates who don't fully embrace socialized medicine. They should. It would be a clarifying moment for a party that has been drifting toward the extreme left for some time.
Sanders' presidential pollster Ben Tulchin told Politico this week that "within the Democratic Party, this is fast-emerging as a litmus test." And Sanders, in an email to supporters, promises to "take on" not just insurance and drug companies, but "the establishment wing of the Democratic Party" to realize his dream of medical socialism in America.
If they succeed, whatever is left of the old mainstream Democrats would be swept away. And for what?
While polls show support for single-payer health care creeping upward — in which all private insurance plans would be outlawed and every American would be put on the equivalent of Medicaid — that's largely because the polls never bother to point out the massive costs and disruptions of socialized medicine.
