Chicago Teachers Union Blame Everyone but Themselves for Failure

Education is a vital component of American society, yet is has become a battlefield filled with poor results, propaganda, and children failed by those entrusted to teach them. While there are many, many excellent teachers throughout the country, there are hordes of lazy, incompetent, and progressive ideologically driven teachers who drag our education system down the drain. The refuge for these vermin are teachers unions, whose sole aim is not to make sure our children are being properly educated but rather to feather their own nest whilst indoctrinating their captive audience into their twisted world view. The most classic example of this is the Chicago Teachers Union and its president, Karen Lewis.
Karen Lewis and her union minions have long screwed the children of Chicago in order to fatten their bank accounts and guarantee job security despite pitiful test scores. Just last year, the teachers union wanted a 30 percent raise despite the fact that they are amongst the highest paid teachers in the country ($76,000 a year!) and that the country is suffering through the chaos of Obama's failed economic policies. This week, Karen Lewis blamed Chicago's failing schools on "rich white people" and bleated on about how more funding was needed. This is normal logic for progressive liberals in that it's never their fault and the solution is more government money...which will go to union members.
In the real world where most of us have to live, we know that this is utter bull. While Chicago teachers make insanely high wages while they produce nothing. Just last year, it was reported that only 21 percent of 8th graders tested at grade-level ability in reading and only 20 percent at math. Chicago spends way more per student than the national average. As I discussed earlier (LINK), the US spends about $7,743 dollars per student, but in Chicago in 2010, the cost was $13,078. The bane of teachers unions, charter schools, spend roughly $1800 less per student but achieve higher results. Spending more money isn't the answer. We spend more than other countries but lag behind.
All this begs the question, why are taxpayers forking over so much money to those who fail in their job? In the private sector, if you fail to do your job, you're soon looking for new work. Yet teachers unions continue to swallow taxpayer money at a gluttonous rate while our children are failing badly. As Karen Lewis exemplifies, they never point the finger of blame at who's responsible....themselves. It's time we took back our education system and make people accountable and toss out the union fat cats who are destroying the futures of our children.
