Are You Really Worse Off if You 'Lose' Your Government-Selected Health Insurance?

PJ Media ^ | 03/14/2017 | Liz Sheld

The CBO has released its estimated cost of the new GOP health care plan and the numbers are getting some bad spin from the usual suspects.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) on Monday projected that the number of people without health insurance would grow by 14 million in 2018 under the Republican ObamaCare replacement bill, with that number rising to 24 million in a decade.

The Hill described the report as a "bombshell."
The Washington Post called it "cruel."
The New York Times said Republicans were anticipating an "almost certain to be a bleak accounting" of the plan.
The implicit standard in analysis of the health insurance system is that every consumer must have government-selected coverage. But why? This chosen paradigm doesn't take into consideration the most forceful motivation of human behavior, namely, whether a large expenditure of limited resources is in one's economic interest. This standard of "universal coverage" is as artificial as the government's bloated healthcare costs.
A young person with minimal health expenses is well served not to purchase one of these government-created insurance policies: his yearly medical expenses do not exceed the cost of his premiums and deductibles. With the rate that Obamacare costs are skyrocketing, that pool isn't just confined to young people anymore. If an individual or family has to fork out tens of thousands of dollars before seeing healthcare benefits, what's the point? Why not save that money and when services are needed, pay directly to the care providers?
Perhaps there are people who do not want the available insurance policies and prefer to handle their healthcare costs in their own way that best fits their individual or family situations. We are seeing a rise in concierge medicine, internet-based medicine, and free-market surgery centers. Insurance is a hedge against future risk; a young, healthy person might chose to cover himself with a catastrophic policy and pay out of pocket for the usual cold, flu, or ear infection. This makes economic sense.
If more people chose to pay routine, non-catastrophic costs with cash then more healthcare practitioners would compete for their business: doctors and companies would innovate new solutions to earn patients' healthcare dollars.  I offer the example of two healthcare commodities that are outside the insurance world and outside government cost regulation: elective vision surgery and cosmetic procedures. Both are not covered by insurance. The cost of these two services has plummeted since being introduced to the market. There are commercials, Groupons, and "deals" constantly competing for your business.
That kind of competition is missing from our healthcare market. If you see any advertisements for products in the healthcare industry, like medicine or hospitals, there is no emphasis on "value" because the consumer isn't picking up the cost. How much is a routine office visit to your doctor? Well that all depends on who is paying for it.

So perhaps millions of people wouldn't "lose" their health insurance but rather would choose to opt out of the artificial system created by the government because it doesn't serve their economic interest. Under Obamacare, we saw rising costs for less coverage crushing the middle class. No right-minded person would choose this arrangement.
Some will argue that people aren't capable of acting in their own best healthcare interest and perhaps this is true some of the time or even most of the time, But one thing is certain: the government bureaucracy will never advocate for your interest. Save yourself and demand a free-market healthcare system.

Those who hurl Hitler & fascist epithets at Trump are epic failures at grasping the irony of it all

Flopping Aces ^ | 03-14-17 | DrJohn

Yesterday Sean Spicer was accosted by a woman (ambushed is more like it) in an Apple store. Her name is Shree Chauhan. Watch the video and see the pure hate she heaps upon Spicer.
Despite her deranged harassment Spicer, to his great credit, stayed polite and calm.  Her behavior is appalling. It is uncivil. And as such, she is the epitome of the left. She is the poster child for Trump Derangement Syndrome, and there is an Army behind her. Chauhan hit Spicer with the highly cliched accusation first:
"How does it feel to work for a fascist?"
I won't bore you with any of the 15,700,000 examples of "Trump fascist" search on Google.
Nor will I bother you with the 32,000,000 examples of "Trump Hitler" on Google.
The Hitler analogy?  I'll let Regie Hamm explain:
Hitler was a real life murdering sociopath. He wasn’t just a charismatic speaker who incrementally fell into bad behavior. He wasn’t just a racist corrupted by unfettered power. In other words, you or I probably couldn’t end up being Hitler. A garden variety KKK leader probably couldn’t end up being Hitler either …or a community organizer …or a New York real-estate tycoon. It’s not that easy or simple.
You'll want to read the whole thing.
You are simply an idiot if you whip out this one. My father was a WWII combat vet fighting Hitler and the Nazis. His safe space was a foxhole into which he would dive when the shelling began. Fascist? Let's take a look at that.
Definition of fascism
  1. 1often capitalized:  a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition
Does a fascist allow you to accuse him of fascism unfettered? Does a fascist allow you to make a video of you assassinating him without retribution? You might want to check in at the Hotel Kim Jong Un and explore the amenities.
What American has had his or her rights abridged or curtailed under the Hitler/fascist Trump? Please- stand up now.
Those who hurl the Hitler and fascist epithets at Trump are epic failures at grasping the irony of it all. They are free- free to call Trump Hitler and a fascist and clearly she has no fear of retribution. These morons are free to protest without the IRS being set upon them as happened in the last administration. In our showcase example Shree Chauhan was free to prove herself to be an ignorant twit full of blind hatred.

OMB Director Mick Mulvaney makes mincemeat of CBO scoring of health care plan

Legal Insurrection ^ | Mark Finkelstein

If you haven’t seen OMB Director Mick Mulvaney in action, do yourself a favor and watch the video here. On today’s Morning Joe, Mulvaney showed himself to be smart, well-spoken, undefensive and down-to-earth as he systematically demolished Mika’s, and by extension, the CBO’s, claims about the Trump admin’s health care proposal.

Before Mulvaney appeared, the panel had engaged in extended hand-wringing over the loss of coverage that the CBO has projected. Mulvaney made three telling points:

Undocumented immigrants offered anti-deportation training!

ABC-TV El Paso ^ | March 13, 2017 | By DEEPTI HAJELA

Don't open the front door if immigration officials knock. If you are taken into custody, tell them your name and nothing else. Definitely don't sign anything.
That is some of the advice being given in New York City and around the country at training sessions, put on by advocacy organizations, aimed at helping immigrants living in the country illegally get in as little trouble as possible if they encounter U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
Called "know your rights" training, the sessions have been pushed by some groups as a way to prepare for a possible crackdown on illegal immigration under President Donald Trump. Similar trainings are scheduled in New Mexico and El Paso.
The idea, organizers said, is to give immigrants guidance on how to legitimately push back against attempts to detain them, mostly using tactics designed to keep agents from learning anything they don't already know. The government can'

Many Young Adults are Turning to Witchcraft as a Way to Rebel Against Upbringings!

The Washington Standard ^ | March 14, 2017 | The Washington Standard

Young adults in America are far less likely to identify themselves as “Christians” than previous generations of Americans, but that does not mean that they have given up on searching for spiritual meaning in their lives. According to Wikipedia, one very popular form of witchcraft known as Wicca has been growing at a rate of more than 100 percent annually in recent years, and this has been happening at a time when Christianity has been in decline in the United States. Of course other pagan and occult groups have been exploding in popularity as well, and as you will see below, one of the primary reasons for this is because many young adults are seeking ways to rebel against their conservative Christian upbringings.
I have written much about how young adults in this country are far more politically liberal than their parents and grandparents, and this enormous cultural shift in values has a spiritual dimension to it as well.
A recent Barna Group study found that only 4 percent of Americans aged 18 to 29 have a Biblical worldview.
Only 4 percent.
The shocking truth is that the values of most Millennials much more easily fit into pagan spirituality than they do into most evangelical Christian churches.
If you want to sleep around with as many people as possible, that is okay in witchcraft. If you want to take drugs and get high every day, that is okay in witchcraft. If you want to be a radical pro-abortion feminist, that is okay in witchcraft. If you want to be a gay transsexual exhibitionist, that is okay in witchcraft.

Senator Cruz Found an Overlooked 1974 Rule That Could Be a Real Game-changer for Repealing Obamacare

http://hillarydaily.com/brandon/2017/03/13/senator-cruz-found-an-overlooked-1974-rule-that-could-be-a-real-game-changer-for-repealing-obamacare/ ^ | 3/13/17

However, Cruz’s strategy – which would leverage the power Vice President Mike Pence has as president of the Senate – “might blow up the Senate too,” Bloomberg Politics notes.
One of the main complaints Republican lawmakers have with the new health care reform bill is that it employs many of the same provisions as its predecessor, with some even labelling it “Obamacare Lite.”
The Hill explains exactly why the scope of this bill is so limited:
House Republicans left several reforms popular with conservatives out of their health care bill because the parliamentarian is likely to rule them outside the scope of special rules in the upper chamber that prevent a Democratic filibuster.
These special rules hinge on what is known as “reconciliation,” a process that allows legislation that affects the budge, but has a limited scope to be passed with only a simple Senate majority, which makes them immune to filibuster.
Traditionally, it has fallen to the parliamentarian – who advises the Senate “on the interpretation of its rules and procedures” – to determine what should and should not be considered a reconciliation bill.
However, Cruz’s strategy – which would leverage the power Vice President Mike Pence has as president of the Senate – “might blow up the Senate too,” Bloomberg Politics notes.

Don't Trust Those CBO Health Care Numbers

Investor's Business Daily ^ | 3/13/2017 | Staff

Health Reform: Democrats are no doubt gleeful that the Congressional Budget Office says the Republican health plan would leave 24 million more people uninsured by 2026. But there's no reason to rely on the CBO, since they were wildly off the mark in predicting how well ObamaCare would work.

Shortly before President Obama signed ObamaCare into law, the CBO announced its findings that the health reform would cut the deficit in the first decade by a modest $119 billion, and possibly slash them by a trillion dollars in the second decade.

The CBO also predicted that 23 million people would be enrolled in ObamaCare exchanges this year, and that the number of uninsured would have gone down by 30 million.

None of that came to pass.

Judicial Watch Sues Obama’s DOJ And The CIA For Illegally Investigating General Flynn And Trump

IWB ^ | Pamela Williams

Thank the Lord for Judicial Watch. They operate quietly in the background, but nothing gets by them when it comes to crimes within the Government. They are working overtime right now. They have filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Central Intelligence Agency, the United States Department of Justice and the Department of the Treasury regarding records related to the investigation of retired United States Army Lieutenant General Michael Flynn’s communications with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak (Judicial Watch v. Central Intelligence Agency et al. (No.1:17-cv-00397))..
The lawsuit was filed after the Obama agencies failed to respond to a January 25, 2017, FOIA request seeking: Any and all records regarding, concerning, or related to the investigation of retired Gen. Michael Flynn’s communications with Russian Ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak between October 1, 2016 and the present.
This request includes, but is not limited to, any and all related warrants, affidavits, declarations, or similar records regarding the aforementioned investigation.
For purposes of clarification, please find enclosed a CNN report regarding the investigation, which cites information that was provided to CNN by members of the Intelligence Community.
