Paul Ryan’s Deal Throws away 2014 Advantage

Canada Free Press ^ | December 18, 2013 | Jonathon Moseley

Republicans in the United States just damaged their chances of winning elections in 2014, while trying to increase their chances. That is what is wrong with the Republican Party: A total failure to properly diagnose or understand the Party’s circumstances cripples it.
Obama lied. He broke his promises about ObamaCare. Broken faith is melting the Democrats’ hopes of winning elections in 2014. Obama cannot smooth-talk voters back who no longer trust him and are no longer listening.
Republicans had to save the Democrats and throw away the GOP’s advantage for 2014. Republicans broke their own promise to the voters – also a core promise – to reduce spending and get the deficit under control. Now voters can feel equally betrayed by both Republicans and Democrats. Now there is no need to favor Republicans over Democrats in 2014, because both parties broke bedrock campaign promises.
Here’s the problem: Campaigns are not won on election day. They are won during the entire year leading up to election day, by the mostly-conservative grassroots activists who help raise money, organize, pound yard signs along the highway, make phone calls, set up meet-and-greets and coffees, and other events.
Candidates do not win or lose elections. Republican insiders do not win or lose elections. Campaign consultants do not win or lose elections. Thousands of unpaid volunteers win the campaign for the candidate, especially on the Republican side. Those volunteers vote with their feet and decide anew each and every Saturday morning whether to stay home or get out there and campaign for the candidate. Every unpaid volunteer faces the temptation to just stay home instead of leaving the house and getting in the car.
The candidate whom the volunteers elect gets paid the salary, gets the glory, and puts the “win” on his or her resume.

GM Spends $1.3 Billion to “Create or Retain” 1,000 Jobs (1.3 million per)

NLPC ^ | December 18, 2013 | Mark Modica

Just days after the US government announced their exit from General Motors, the company announced a move that sounds like it could have come directly out of the Obama Administration playbook. GM is boasting about "creating or retaining" roughly a thousand jobs at the cost of approximately $1.3 million per job in a move that could only be viewed as a positive from a political point of view.
The heavy spending to preserve union jobs did not go unrecognized by the Obama-friendly UAW. UAW Vice President Joe Ashton stated:
Today's announcement is a win for American workers. The UAW is proud to be a part of this successful collaboration with GM that has helped rebuild the nation's economy, created good paying, union jobs in communities across the country, and brought manufacturing that was moved overseas back to the U.S. This is further proof that collective bargaining works.
I would argue that this is "further proof that collective bargaining works" only if you believe that taxpayers should be obligated to pay billions of dollars to bail out companies like GM when union wages and legacy costs drive them into bankruptcy. You would also have to believe that spending $1.3 million per job saved is efficient spending. Besides that, should the motivation of GM be to save jobs or create profits for shareholders? I can not disagree that the process works well for UAW members, but the benefits came at a high cost to American taxpayers.
GM was essentially given a blank check tied into the American taxpayers' bank account. They continue to spend the money they were gifted as if the account will never become overdrawn. The similarity to how our government spends is eerie. Even the terminology of "creating or retaining" jobs sounds identical to phrases used by the Obama Administration to justify spending billions of dollars to reward cronies and favored classes.
Incoming CEO, Mary Barra, should be wary of continuing the free-spending course set forth by the politically-influenced and Obama-appointed leadership at GM. At some point, the realization that spending billions of dollars for political gain is not a sound business strategy should sink in. If not, GM will squander the $49.5 billion that it received from US taxpayers and the risks will increase when the cyclical nature of auto sales inevitably again rears its head.

Feeling besieged, tea party groups prepare for policy battles

Washington Post ^ | December 18, 2013 | Stephanie McCrummen

"...........“Nice to see you, Mr. Rickard,” someone said to Alan Rickard, 57, who described himself as an “envoy” from the tea party group in Orangeburg County, S.C., and said he agreed with what radio host Rush Limbaugh had been saying earlier in the day, that the tea party movement is a “way of life” that can never die.
“There is rightness that is coming from the ranks,” Rickard said.
He joined a buffet line with Bob Dowd, 70, a retired police officer who said, “I think Speaker Boehner needs to be replaced — I don’t think he understands where we’re going.”
“Good job, Bob,” his wife said.
Milling around was Bob Dill, 80, editor of the Times Examiner newspaper, whose motto is Matthew 16:3 (“. . . can ye not discern the signs of the times?”) and whose most recent headlines included “Dr. Ben Carson’s Presidential Campaign Taking Shape,” about the neurosurgeon popular among religious conservatives.
Dill said he did not believe polls showing tea party conservatives losing popularity.
“I think it’s wishful thinking on the part of the leadership of the Republican Party,” he said. “I feel more energized.”
Mary Beth Green and Linda Weeks circulated a petition opposing President Obama’s federal health-care law.
"Would you sign?” Green asked.
“Anything for a patriot,” a man said.
Dean Allen, who is writing a book called “Rattlesnake Revolution: The Tea Party Strikes!,” said it was people like him who are the future of the party.
“You’ve got to have people in this room excited,” he said, waving a biscuit. “It’s who will open their checkbook, who will put the signs on the road. When we are demoralized we get crap like Obama in the White House.”
“Hear, hear!” said Justin Alexander, 33, biting into his fried chicken.
Soon, everyone stood for the Pledge of Allegiance, and the program began......."

It all looks so lax, so loosey-goosey...Incompetence!

Wall Street Journal ^ | 12-17-13 | Peggy Noonan

Everyone is doing thoughtful year-end pieces on President Obama. Writers and reporters agree he’s had his worst year ever. I infer from most of their essays an unstated but broadly held sense of foreboding: There’s no particular reason to believe next year will be better, and in fact signs and indications point to continued trouble.

I would add that in recent weeks I have begun to worry about the basic competency of the administration, its ability to perform the most fundamental duties of executive management. One reason I worry is that I frequently speak with people who interact with the White House, and when I say, “That place just doesn’t seem to work,” they don’t defend it, they offer off-the-record examples of how poorly the government is run. One thing that’s clear this holiday season: New York’s Democrats, to the degree they ever loved the president, don’t love him anymore, and have moved on. They are not thinking about what progress he might make in Washington next year, they’re talking about what Hillary might do the year after that.
My worries came home with a certain freshness after the Mandela memorial, where the United States Secret Service allowed the president of the United States to stand for 19 minutes next to the famous sign-language interpreter who, it was quickly revealed, was not only a fraud but a schizophrenic con man who is now said to have been involved in two deaths. ~snip~ That said, it still looks like very basic negligence, as if no one is keeping enough of an eye on the Secret Service, no one’s checking the quality of the advance or sending emails asking: “Hey, what do we know about the sign language guy—any chance he’s a mentally ill criminal?”
It all looks so lax, so loosey-goosey.

Insight into why Obama seems to be purging the military

When I asked my colleague the Army Colonel why he thinks Obama is doing this, the reply I received from this life-long soldier and Army leader shocked me.

Paraphrasing him, this is what he told me in a nutshell.

He said, most branches of the service routinely engage in war “games” and come up with strategies and tactics on how to handle every type of military conflict and scenario that can be imagined . One of the big new battle scenarios being actively discussed in the military recently is how to handle civil unrest in the U.S. and fighting in the streets. What will the Army do if called in to fight armed civilians in the streets of the United States? How will that urban warfare be conducted? Will troops be able to fire upon other American citizens when the troops take an oath to protect American citizens?
He said many in the military are discussing the very real possibility that Obama will attempt to stay in office beyond two terms. It is being speculated that Obama will do this by declaring a state of martial law. The easiest way to declare martial law is when there is massive civil unrest and riots throughout the U.S. Thus, it is believed that Obama, and his regime, will intentionally create a situation of massive civil unrest. Some believe he has already started to implement that strategy by forcing Obamacare on everyone (when the populace did not ask for it and less than 300 people in power voted for it). Perhaps the Obama Administration is not too concerned over the totally dysfunctional Obamacare website and the additional fact that millions will be dropped from their existing insurance policies which they already had and liked. The Obama Administration may not care if getting health care becomes more difficult and more expensive because it is all leading toward civil unrest. It is believed by some that Obamacare will only get worse and worse, and then in 2 to 3 years when people have a very difficult time getting medical treatment for themselves or their loved ones, people will get enraged.
Moreover, it is being speculated that around the same time when the frustration levels over Obamacare are hitting a critical point in 2 to 3 years, there will be a “glitch” in the welfare payment (or EBT) payment system. The tens of millions who rely on EBT handouts to sustain themselves will be cut off. The overwhelming majority of the EBT recipients are Black. The Obama regime will then blame the “glitch” on the Republicans, i.e., Republicans froze government spending which “forced” Obama to suspension of EBT payments. (Obama will intentionally drive spending up and up uncontrolled knowing full well that one day the Republicans will be backed into a corner and finally vote for a freeze in spending.) Obama will create heightened racial tension by telling everyone that the White Republicans are racially motivated and did this to hurt the Black community. This manufactured racial tension, combined with growing tensions over the then-collapsing medical coverage due to Obamacare, will result in race wars and civil unrest. People will take to the streets.
By the way, you should know that my colleague, the Army Colonel who is telling me all this, is Black. He specifically commented, and outwardly expressed his embarrassment, about how Blacks have become so dependent and enslaved by the welfare system and the Democrats that it would be very easy to create civil unrest and race wars merely by cutting off, or dramatically hindering, EBT payments for only a month or so. He believes that most Blacks, who have a misguided sense of entitlement, will then take to looting stores and rioting.
Once the race wars, civil unrest, and violence becomes pervasive throughout the U.S., Obama will declare martial law and take over. Elections can, and will, be postponed under martial law.
My colleague noted that this possibility is clearly being analyzed and discussed inside the military because such a martial law strategy is nothing new. Tyrannical and dictatorial leaders in the past have done the martial law strategy many times. He noted that dictators such as Stalin, Mussolini, and Hitler did basically the identical thing. He went on to say that one of the most recent examples of this strategy was when Marcos declared martial law in the Philippines from 1972-1981 due to civil unrest. The Philippines had democratic elections up until that time. When martial law was declared, the Philippine constitution was suspended, its Congress dissolved, all elections were suspended, and Marcos remained in power for years beyond his elected term. The alleged “terrorist bombings” that occurred in the Philippines, which lead to Marcos declaring martial law, have always been questioned and never proven to be the acts of actual terrorists.

He concluded by saying that many believe this is the real reason behind the purgings of military generals. The older members of the military, and especially its generals and leaders, tend to be more conservative and they believe in the Constitution—and following the Constitution. Thus, a tyrant and dictator needs to get rid of these military leaders before a state of martial law is declared if the rising dictator wants the military to follow along and do what the dictator says. Due to the loss of many experienced military leaders the past few years, the military is now being run and guided more and more by younger, inexperienced leaders. The type who won’t really know what to do if martial law was declared. Moreover, he noted that there is a growing mindset throughout the military now that every soldier needs to keep quiet and just follow along with what Obama says and wants to do or you will be fired and your military career ruined. Again, I was told this is nothing new since removing strong military leaders in advance of declaring martial law is a historically-proven element of a rising tyrant and dictator.
