Thousands of gun control laws later, politicians like Mayor Bloomberg walk the streets of New York with armed security. According to a 2009 CBS News piece, Bloomberg, like his predecessors, is protected around the clock, “even when he’s not working.”
The mayor of the nation's largest city is protected around the clock, even when he's not working. He's trailed on the golf course, at the theater, while visiting relatives for Thanksgiving dinner--with taxpayers footing the bill.
The report goes further into how many armed individuals usually protect Mayor Bloomberg:
Mayors typically are protected by a five- or six-person team of plainclothes detectives, including one who often goes ahead to secure the destination. There are generally three teams that rotate for the 24-hour job.
Bodyguards generally have stayed overnight with the mayor in Gracie Mansion, the city's official residence. Bloomberg, a billionaire, has opted to stay in his own town house on a prime block of East 79th Street, where there is now a police booth.
Protection is available for a mayor's family members, but the Police Department makes those decisions based on the individuals and any perceived threat against them.

Obama, Biden, Feinstein, Schumer, Lautenberg, Reid, and the libs in Congress, and many other high level gov officials, all got bodyguards for themselves and their families.
And their bodyguards all got full-automatic machine guns with great big high-capacity magazines. And no doubt lots of extra big high-capacity magazines - just in case, meaning they’ve got thousands & thousands of rounds of ammunition too to fill those big ole magazines.
And of course they don’t expect the U.S. military to disarm itself in a world of crazies like Iran, North Korea, Cuba, China, Russia, al-Qaeda, Islamic jihad, Muslim terrorists, and well many, many others. Of course the U.S. military has lots & lots of guns - BIG guns, UGLY guns.
And so Obama & the anti-gun lib leaders are all well protected both personally & nationally but the rest of us plebeians can fend for ourselves with our staves & pitchforks so as not to be too challenging a threat to their authority or rule. We cannot have guns - we as serfs cannot be trusted. Yeah, they want to be the only ones with the guns, except they just can’t seem to keep guns from those pesky criminals.
So we lose some children to a Lanza crazy. They just can’t trust the teachers, janitors, principals, or any of us plebs to have a gun to end such slaughter. And forget about armed security guards or police - too much money I’m sure. They wouldn’t do it after Columbine, the Sikh temple, Aurora, CO, Gabby Giffords, Fort Hood, Virginia Tech . . . There’s just too many guns out there, ungly guns, military-’style’ guns, guns with ‘big clips.’ And we have to take away the guns! That’s the mantra!
