Occupiers litter, while immigrants achieve

You can learn something from immigrants.
 
One thing you can learn is how, working within the system, you can get things done.
 
Nowhere was that clearer than a couple of events that took place at the Statehouse this past week.
 
Inside the building Monday were a gathering of more than 600 immigrants -- the vast majority of them citizens, or on their way to becoming citizens -- who packed Gardner Auditorium during a daylong immigrant advocacy gathering sponsored by MIRA, the Massachusetts Immigrant & Advocacy Coalition. They arrived early and they stayed late.
 
They were there to lobby for their cause, or causes which, basically, means that they want to be accepted as Americans and become part of the American Dream. They work as hospital aides, hotel maids, cleaning ladies, landscapers, nursing-home aides, and so on. Their slogan on that day was: New Americans Building Power Together. Their aim, after a greeting from MIRA officials and Harvard Professor Elizabeth Warren, was to fan out among legislators and make their presence known. Warren, a Democrat, is challenging Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, who did not attend the event.
