Justice Dept. objects to judge’s order for ethics classes, disclosure of immigrant data

The Washington Times ^ | May 31, 2016 | Andrea Noble

The Justice Department fired back at the Texas judge who ordered its attorneys to undertake ethics classes after finding they misled the court in a high-profile challenge to President Obama’s deportation amnesty — saying the order was beyond the judge’s authority and would cost millions to implement.
In a motion filed Tuesday asking for a stay of the order, in which U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen said DOJ attorneys were “intentionally deceptive,” government attorneys outlined their objections to both the training requirements and his requirement that by June 10 the Department of Homeland Security turn over identifying information for 50,000 immigrants who entered the United States illegally and are now participants in a government program that shields them from deportation.
“The sanctions ordered by the Court far exceed the bounds of appropriate remedies for what this Court concluded were intentional misrepresentations, a conclusion that was reached without proper procedural protections and that lacks sufficient evidentiary support,” DOJ attorneys wrote their motion for the stay.

The Obama Administration's Disrespect For The Rule Of Law Hits A New Low

Forbes ^ | May 31, 2016 | George Leef

The lawlessness of the Obama administration has been astounding.
Entire books have been written about President Obama’s notion that he should be and is free to do whatever he wants (such as Lawless by Professor David Bernstein, which I wrote about here). No doubt more will be.
One remarkably brazen instance I recently learned about is his administration’s funneling of money from lawsuit settlements into the pockets of left-wing activist groups. It makes you wonder if there is anything this administration won’t try to get away with.
Following the collapse of the housing bubble, the federal government initiated several grandstanding, politically motivated lawsuits against big banks for their allegedly fraudulent conduct with regard to secondary market mortgage-backed securities. Rather than fight the feds and their almost bottomless well of taxpayer dollars, several of the defendants decided to cut their losses and settle.
That enabled federal prosecutors to claim victory and wave some prominent scalps. Siphoning off billions of bank capital is bad enough, but the rule of law problem emerges in two of the settlement agreements, under which the banks (Citigroup and Bank of America) were able to reduce their penalties by making “donations” to favored left-wing activist groups.

IMF OKs New Two-Year $88 Billion Flexible Credit Line For Mexico (build the wall with this)

International Business Times ^ | 27 May 2016

The International Monetary Fund on Friday boosted its flexible credit line with Mexico to $88 billion in a bid to support Latin America's No. 2 economy, whose currency has been battered by global volatility.
The fund said it canceled a previous flexible credit line, which was for $67 billion and approved on November 26, 2014. The new credit line will last for two years, the fund said.
Mexico's macroeconomic policies "remain very strong," but there are risks given global market volatility, David Lipton, IMF first deputy managing director and acting chair, said in a statement.
Mexico's peso was little changed following the announcement.
Mexico has been one of the most orthodox adherents among emerging markets to IMF doctrine — such as a freely floating currency — and only Colombia and Poland have received similar credit lines.

Heartwarming moment World War II veteran, 94, is reunited

Daily Mail ^ | 5/18/16

Full title :Heartwarming moment World War II veteran, 94, is reunited with man he saved from Nazi concentration camp in 1945
A 94-year-old World War II veteran was reunited with one of the prisoners he helped liberate from the Dachau concentration camp.
Retired U.S. Army corporal Sid Shafner said he was among the first Allied troops to reach the Nazi camp in April 1945, and that he is the last surviving member of his unit.
His tearful reunion with Marcel Levy, 90, who was a teenager when he was liberated, came during a recent tour of Europe and Israel.
'You know, everything that I have today is because of you. You saved my life. Because you had the patience to speak to me, to take to me,' Levy said while holding Shafner's hand, according to WFAA.
'Don't praise me,' Shafner replied. 'If it wasn't me, it would have been someone else.'
The two old friends met on an Israeli military base during a trip organized by FIDF, a non-profit organization supporting Israeli troops.
The last time they saw each other was 1995.
'I have been in touch with him all these years. Through postcards, greeting cards, and now email on the computer,' Shafner, who lives in a retirement home in Denver, told WFAA.

Despite a Setback, Right-to-Work is Advancing Across America

Michigan Capitol Confidential ^ | 5/18/2016 | Vinnie Vernuccio

On March 29, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a one-line ruling on a case that would have brought right-to-work protections to public employees across the country. The court said that a lower court decision would stand, meaning government unions in non-right-to-work states can still get public employees fired for not paying them.
But since the decision was the result of a 4-4 tie rather than a majority ruling, it does not affect the entire country — only the western states covered by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, where the case was decided earlier. The case, Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association, was brought by the Center for Individual Rights on behalf of Rebecca Friedrichs and several other California teachers. Friedrichs and her fellow plaintiffs argued that everything done by a government union is “inherently political” and that they have a First Amendment right not to fund politics they disagree with.
The country is moving swiftly in the direction of worker freedom. When West Virginia became a right-to-work state, it became the fifth state to do so since 2000, and the fourth since 2012. Supporters of worker freedom were initially optimistic that the court would affirm the First Amendment rights of public employees through Friedrichs. With the death of Justice Antonin Scalia in February, however, a positive outcome seemed unlikely as Scalia was widely thought to be the swing vote in the case. For the time being, Scalia’s passing likely saved unions’ ability to force public employees in about half the states to pay them dues or fees.
Until a ninth justice is appointed, not much of anything deemed controversial will get through the court, meaning freedom may be delayed for Friedrichs and other public employees across the country wishing to exercise their rights.
But if the Senate continues to block the nomination of Merrick Garland, President Obama’s nominee to the Supreme Court, and the president who is elected in November appoints a justice like Scalia, there is a good chance the issue of forced unionism could be reheard by a new court and decided in favor of worker freedom. On the other hand, if Garland or a similar nominee is confirmed to the court, chances are very slim for a decision favoring public employees’ First Amendment rights. As the Washington Times recently noted, “Garland rulings consistently side with labor unions.”
Still, attorneys for the plaintiffs are undaunted. Center for Individual Rights President Terry Pell released a statement after the decision, saying, “We believe this case is too significant to let a split decision stand and we will file a petition for rehearing with the Supreme Court.” Rebecca Friedrichs echoed this sentiment, telling reporters, “All of us plaintiffs have been in the classroom for a very long time, so we’re very patient people, and we are definitely in this for the long haul. Today’s decision isn’t the end of the case, and in our view, it simply just delays the final outcome.”
Cases using similar reasoning to Friedrichs, such as the Janus v. AFSCME case brought by the Liberty Justice Center in Illinois, are working their way through lower courts and could be heard by a full Supreme Court if it does not rehear Friedrichs.
No matter what happens at the Supreme Court, labor reform will continue to come from the states. When West Virginia became a right-to-work state earlier this year, it became the fifth state to do so since 2000, and the fourth since 2012. It also became the 26th right-to-work state, meaning that there is now a majority of states in the country in which unions cannot get workers fired for not paying them. That number will continue to grow.

The Most Important Story This Political Season

Dr. Anthony Napoleon ^ | Feb. 3, 2016 | Dr Anthony Napoleon

An Avowed Socialist is a Viable Candidate for President of the United States
Let that headline sink in for a moment. I know what you’re thinking: Senator Sanders doesn’t have a chance. Before you get too much solace from that denial ridden and self-comforting thought, you’re missing the point. Put aside your desire to soothe your jagged nerves and consider that for the FIRST TIME in American history, an avowed socialist is a VIABLE candidate for President of the United States.
How did we get here? Well, to begin with, Baby Boomers are no longer the largest demographic group in America. Baby Boomers began their adult lives as the love children, drug addled 60s generation. At least 40% of Baby Boomers lean left. But the real story is to be found in their children and grand children, i.e., the Millennial and Generation Y demographics.

Hillary reveals she earned $1.5million from just SIX speeches last year and $5million in book ...

(UK) Daily Mail ^ | May 17, 2016

Complete Headline: Hillary reveals she earned $1.5million from just SIX speeches last year and $5million in book royalties – while husband Bill's speeches raked in a whopping $5 million

  • Hillary Clinton filed a candidate financial disclosure form on Tuesday
  • The documents show that the presidential hopeful made $5million from royalties for her book 'Hard Choices' in the year before her campaign
  • In 2015 she also made $1.5million in speaking fees
  • Her highest-paying speech was at eBay, for $315,000

Hillary Clinton's speeches to Wall Street interests between 2013 and 2015 spurred questions about her own lack of transparency, leading to repeated calls from her Democratic rival, Bernie Sanders, for transcripts of her talks to banks, investment houses and other financial interests.
In all, she made at least 94 appearances before corporate and other special interests between 2013 and 2015, earning more than $21.6 million for her services.

Trump: Obama’s Ignorance Is Why He’s ‘The Worst President in U.S. History’

Breitbart.com ^ | 17 May 2016 | Alex Swoyer

Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump responded to President Obama’s jab during a commencement speech last weekend at Rutgers University.
Taking to Twitter, Trump posted:
"In politics, and in life, ignorance is not a virtue." This is a primary reason that President Obama is the worst president in U.S. history!
Without calling Trump out by name, Obama focused on the Republican nominee throughout the graduation speech.
“In politics and in life, ignorance is not a virtue,” Obama told the graduates. “It’s not cool to not know what you’re talking about. That’s not keeping it real or telling it like it is. That’s not challenging political correctness. That’s just not knowing what you’re talking about. And yet we’ve become confused about this.”
“I guess it’s part of human nature — especially in times of change and uncertainty — to want to look backwards and long for some imaginary past when everything worked, and the economy hummed, and all politicians were wise, and every child was well-mannered, and America pretty much did whatever it wanted around the world,” Obama also stated. “Guess what? It ain’t so. The good old days weren’t all that good.”

Texas Governor: Time To Support Trump, Put America Back On Right Track

Breitbart ^ | May 17, 2016 | Lana Shadwick

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said it is time for the GOP to support Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. He said there was no option to sit it out saying, “We have no second chance to get this right.”
The governor of the Lone Star State explained that the country is at “a tipping point.” “People have to participate if we are going to put America back on the right track,” Abbott said while appearing on CNBC...
“So I think Republicans will unite understanding that we cannot take four or eight more years of the Obama agenda,” the Texas Governor predicted...

The Clinton sleaze never ends

http://nypost.com ^ | 05/15/2016 | By Post Editorial Board

In most cases, news that a major presidential candidate’s family charity doled out millions to a for-profit company controlled by the candidate’s longtime friends would be raising lots of eyebrows. But this is Bill and Hillary we’re talking about. So it’s just the latest in a long list of disclosures about the slush fund that operates publicly as the Clinton Foundation.

The foundation is deeply intertwined with the massive wealth they’ve accumulated in the past 15 years — even as its donors have themselves reaped enormous benefits. The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that the foundation in 2010 committed $2 billion to Energy Pioneer Solutions, despite IRS rules that say a charity is not “supposed to act in anyone’s private interests.” The ex-president even personally arranged a US Energy Department grant to the company. Among the firm’s owners are several longtime Clinton friends — including a wealthy blond divorcĂ©e from Chappaqua whose relationship with Bill has long been the subject of speculation. The Journal reports that the foundation even removed the fiscal link from its Web site to avoid calling attention to Bill’s “friendship.”

So we’re back to that again. Smirking aside, though, the Clinton Foundation has been embroiled in one financial scandal after another. Last fall, it had to amend four years of tax filings to come clean about $20 million in foreign donations it received while Hillary served as secretary of state. Of course, the Clintons and dubious dealings go shamelessly hand in hand. Always have, always will. Which is just one more reason to keep Hillary Clinton out of the White House.

Sons of Climategate: Dodgy Scientists Caught Red-Handed by FOIA Lawsuit

Breitbart News Network ^ | 15 May 2016 | James Delingpole

The dodgy scientists who wrote to resident Obama and Attorney General Loretta Lynch demanding that RICO laws be used to prosecute climate skeptics just got even more badly screwed.
Already one of them — George Mason University professor Jagadish Shukla — is under Congressional investigation for what has been described as the “largest science scandal in US history.”
Now the background to their footling conspiracy has been exposed thanks to a FOIA request by the Competitive Enterprise Institute which has forced them to release their private letters and emails.
Like Climategate, it makes for some fascinating reading, mainly because — yet again — it shows the climate alarmist establishment in such a terrible light.
Remember, these guys are supposed to be the experts on whose judgment our political leaders base their policies; every year they snaffle millions and millions of dollars worth of grant funding courtesy of the U.S. taxpayer — some of them may even be teaching your kids.

Socialism Is Dying Everywhere — Except The U.S.

Investor's Business Daily ^ | 5/13/2016

Around the world, nations that have been foolish enough to adopt socialist policies either collapsed or well on their way to doing so. Why, then, are so many in the U.S. enthralled with the idea?
Countries in direst economic shape have one thing in common: They rely on top-down socialist control to run their economies.
There are no long-term socialist success stories. None.
France, for instance, elected a socialist, Francois Hollande, as president in 2012. Today, France suffers a 10.3% jobless rate and 25% youth unemployment. Growth is less than 1%.
Brazil impeached Socialist President Dilma Rousseff for corruption, but her damage to the economy will last. As recently as 2010, Brazil was considered a bright star, awarded both an Olympics and a World Cup because of it. Rousseff’s massive borrowing and spending choked the economy, GDP shrank 3.8% and joblessness soared.
Venezuela’s nightmare. After the death of socialist dictator Hugo Chavez, his successor kept socialist policies in place. Today Venezuela is falling apart. Venezuelans now forage dirty streets for food — including stray dogs and cats.
Argentina’s economy was run into the ground by leftist populist President Cristina Kirchner. Newly elected centrist President Mauricio Macri has stabilized the economy, fixed the nation’s finances, and has returned to global debt markets for the first time since the nation defaulted 15 years ago.
Socialism is a failure, a brutal one. In its name, during the 21st century, millions of people were impoverished and disenfranchised, while over 100 million were murdered.
And yet, as Europe and South America move away from socialism, some in the U.S. embrace it. Polls show socialism is popular among millennials, and many young Americans support socialist Bernie Sanders for president.
Sadly, the left will never face the reality of their utopian central control’s failure everywhere.”

Obama, the Potty Bully

Life Zette ^ | May 13, 2016 | Deirdre Reilly

With a few strokes of a keyboard, President Obama is seeking to change the daily experience of thousands upon thousands of schoolchildren by ordering all U.S. schools to allow transgender students access to the restroom of their choice.
He sent a letter stating his progressive decree to the nation’s schools Friday morning — threatening schools not just with legislation but with a loss of funding if they fail to comply.
The New York Times had an early copy of the letter, from which it excerpted the following, which essentially bans the one-stall bathroom option: “A school may not require transgender students to use facilities inconsistent with their gender identity or to use individual-user facilities when other students are not required to do so.”
“It does not have the force of law,” The Times reports of the letter, “but it contains an implicit threat: Schools that do not abide by the Obama administration’s interpretation of the law could face lawsuits or a loss of federal aid.”
The letter is addressed to all schools that receive federal funding, including 16,500 school districts and 7,000 colleges, universities, and trade schools. It also applies to charter schools, for-profit schools, libraries, and museums that receive federal aid, USA Today reports.
One Boston, Massachusetts, father told LifeZette that he was “stunned,” and said, “I need to call my kids’ school and get the facts, but we will not be quiet in the face of this. My first reaction is to say that Obama was scared by the pushback that Americans gave Target when they essentially did the same thing to their customers. He knows that the way to subvert the will of the people is to use the power of his office. ...

Obama Admin Rule Forces Hospitals, Doctors Accepting Federal Funds to Provide Gender Transition

Breitbart ^ | 14 May 2016 | Dr. Susan Berry

The Obama administration is capping off a week of forcing Americans to accept gender ideology as normal with a final rule on Obamacare’s nondiscrimination policies in healthcare.
The rule will require physicians, hospitals, insurers, and other healthcare entities that receive federal funds — such as Medicare and Medicaid — to include gender transition treatments and even abortion among their services for the alleged sake of “equity.”
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued the final rule on Obamacare’s (Affordable Care Act’s) Section 1557 Friday, stating it will “help to advance equity and reduce health disparities by protecting some of the populations that have been most vulnerable to discrimination in the health care context.”

Hillary Clinton’s long road ahead

National Post ^ | May 13, 2016 | Rex Murphy

Hillary Clinton’s second inevitable triumphal march to the Democratic nomination is even more depressing than her first one. At least eight years ago there was an ascendant star, a rare political phenom, with a smooth manner and glitzy style. Once Obama got traction there really was no way to stop him. To paraphrase one of his own gnomic gems: he was the one everyone was waiting for.

This time it is so different. This time Hillary may finally get the nomination — after a life in politics, cashing in on a generation or two of IOUs, deploying her army of gender warriors, leaning on her cohorts in the liberal press, dusting off Bill and sending him out to rouse or agitate the dwindling number of true believers. She has every possible means of campaign support, from the fear she inspires among her allies, to the Clinton hold on much of the party, to some of the most wicked campaign doctors in the business, all fused and fired by her own ardent, fever-ridden ambition and preternatural sense of pure entitlement. Remember:

But with all that, and with the lock on the numbers she strong-boxed from the outset — those mummified super delegates — she is barely crawling her way to the convention, being bested in primary after primary, by one of the most unlikely, ungainly, unhip and unscripted candidates in a presidential election ever: the awesome socialist septuagenarian Bernie Sanders.

Female WWII Pilots Approved For Burial At Arlington Cemetery

Townhall.com ^ | May 12, 2016 | Christine Rousselle

Congress has approved a burial plot in Arlington National Cemetery for women who served as pilots during WWII. The women served as Women Airforce Service Pilots, or WASP. They flew noncombat and training missions, but their jobs weren't entirely without danger--38 women died in service. Despite this, they weren't considered to be veterans until 1977, when federal law changed to acknowledge their service. Even still, the Army revoked the right of WASP to be buried at Arlington in 2015. Pending President Obama's signature, that will change shortly.
The legislation to reinstate their eligibility was introduced by Rep. Martha McSally (R-AZ).
[...]the WASP spent years fighting to win status as war veterans before a federal law finally recognized their military service in 1977. As veterans, the WASP had been eligible for years to have their ashes buried in Arlington National Cemetery. But that changed last year, when the Army revoked their right to be laid to rest in the veterans cemetery, citing limited space.
"The Army is giving some bureaucratic answer that makes absolutely no sense," said Rep. Martha McSally, R-Ariz., on Here & Now in March. McSally introduced the legislation to allow the WASP the honor of being buried at Arlington.
"These women should have been active duty at the time," McSally said. "The requirements to being in Arlington are very clear: To have your ashes inurned you have to have served on active duty and you have to have been honorably discharged. And they meet that criteria retroactively."
About 100 women who served in WASP are still alive.
This is fantastic news. These women served their country during a time of need, and should be recognized as such. Roles in the military for women were extremely limited in the 1940s--and these women did what they were able to do, bravely.

Probe catches agency in corrupt deals to help Syrian refugees!

WND ^ | 05/12/2016 | Leo Hohmann

NGO that gets tens of millions in U.S. taxpayer money to resettle foreign refugees into dozens of U.S. cities is being investigated for corruption involving contracts with Turkish companies.
The International Rescue Committee is one of the nine volunteer aid agencies, also called VOLAGs, that contract with the federal government to resettle refugees into the United States from Syria, Somalia, Burma, Iraq, Bhutan, Afghanistan and elsewhere.
New York-based IRC, headed by former British Foreign Secretary David Miliband, is being investigated by the Office of the Inspector General within the U.S. Agency for International Development for bid rigging and bribery that allegedly took place among its staff members lining up supplies and services for displaced Syrians in Turkey, according to government documents turned over to WND from the Inspector General’s Office.
In November 2013, Miliband’s organization gave billionaire George Soros its highest award, the Freedom Award, and Soros responded by donating $1 million to the IRC.
Miliband is also a close friend of Hillary Clinton, who was secretary of state at the same time he was foreign secretary.
