Justices say law on offensive trademarks is unconstitutional (Redskins)

WTOP News [Washington DC] ^ | June 19, 2017 10:35 am | AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Monday struck down part of a law that bans offensive trademarks in a ruling that is expected to help the Washington Redskins in their legal fight over the team name.
The justices ruled that the 71-year-old trademark law barring disparaging terms infringes free speech rights.
The ruling is a victory for the Asian-American rock band called the Slants, but the case was closely watched for the impact it would have on the separate dispute involving the Washington football team.
Slants founder Simon Tam tried to trademark the band name in 2011, but the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office denied the request on the ground that it disparages Asians. A federal appeals court in Washington later said the law barring offensive trademarks is unconstitutional.
The Redskins made similar arguments after the trademark office ruled in 2014 that the name offends American Indians and canceled the team’s trademark. A federal appeals court in Richmond put the team’s case on hold while waiting for the Supreme Court to rule in the Slants case.

President Trump Wows Activists & Students @ Road to Majority conference!

Accuracy in Academia ^ | June 19, 2017 | Leonard Robinson

The Faith and Freedom Coalition kicked off its Road to Majority conference in Washington, DC on June 8. The highly-anticipated conference for people of faith and conservative activists included such high profile speakers as President Donald Trump.
Dr. Ralph Reed, founder and President of the Faith and Freedom Coalition, which organized the event, introduced President Trump as “my friend, our friend, the President of the United States, President Donald Trump” causing the crowd to give the chief executive a sweeping standing ovation. The President was nonetheless at home with his people. After all, according to Reed, not only has Donald Trump spoke at this conference more than anyone else--five to be exact-- but also won 81% of the support from American evangelicals.
In addition to President Trump, many churches, organizations, and students from across the country were in attendance at the conference.
Patti Ingles of Clearwater, Florida came to the conference with her church. One of the main issues for Patti is “draining the swamp”, or removing politicians or government officials who have been in office for decades at a time and are riddled with corruption. She admires Trump’s style referring to him as someone who “what you see is what you get.”

NY Times Op-Ed: Deport Americans, Invite Migrants!

Breitbart ^ | 06/18/17 | Neil Munro

America belongs to immigrants because immigrants make the nation more powerful, says a former Wall Street Journal writer who is now working for the New York Times.

Immigrants produce more babies, work harder, create more jobs, and have more ideas, claims the revealing column by immigration-advocate Bret Stephens:
I speak of Americans whose families have been in this country for a few generations. Complacent, entitled and often shockingly ignorant on basic points of American law and history, they are the stagnant pool in which our national prospects risk drowning…
Bottom line: So-called real Americans are screwing up America. Maybe they should leave, so that we can replace them with new and better ones: newcomers who are more appreciative of what the United States has to offer, more ambitious for themselves and their children, and more willing to sacrifice for the future. In other words, just the kind of people we used to be — when “we” had just come off the boat…
I’m the child of immigrants and grew up abroad, I have always thought of the United States as a country that belongs first to its newcomers — the people who strain hardest to become a part of it because they realize that it’s precious; and who do the most to remake it so that our ideas, and our appeal, may stay fresh.
That used to be a cliché, but in the Age of [President Donald] Trump it needs to be explained all over again. We’re a country of immigrants — by and for them, too. Americans who don’t get it should get out.

It's Not "Overheated Political Rhetoric," But the Left's Penchant for Viciousness and Violence

grasstopsusa.com ^ | 06/19/2017 | Don Feder

What's all this caterwauling about "overheated political rhetoric"?

Republicans and Democrats are falling all over themselves to blame partisan rhetoric for the shooting of a Republican Congressman yesterday by a deranged Sanders-ista. I know; that's redundant.

But there's nothing wrong with passion. ("Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice," said Barry Goldwater). Without righteous indignation, we would have had no American Revolution, abolitionists or the Civil Rights movement.
If you can't tell the difference between outrage and incitement, you shouldn't be involved in the political process.
If I decry the crime wave caused by illegal immigration, am I responsible for attacks on illegal aliens?
If I observe that there's a connection between Islamic terrorism and Islam, am I helping to create a climate of hatred? The left would say most definitely.
If I said that communism produced the most despotic regimes in the past century, and someone shot up a communist rally, is it my fault?
Still, while Democrats shed crocodile tears, Republicans flagellate themselves over their imagined sins. Rep. Rodney Davis (RINO, Ill.), who was on the playing field when the murderous attack occurred, says we have to "ratchet down the rhetoric on both sides."
Excuse me?
• Conservatives don't shout down or physically assault college speakers. Today, it's almost impossible for a conservative to speak on any save a handful of campuses. I found that out a few years ago, when I tried to speak on hate crimes at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
• We don't wear black ski masks, wield tire irons, throw rocks and bottles, assault cops and innocent bystanders, set cars on fire or engage in any of the other brown-shirt behavior seen at such bastions of scholarship as UC, Berkeley.
• If Charlton Heston was alive when Barack Obama was in office, he would not have told an NRA rally that he "thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House." He also had better personal hygiene than Madonna – even when he was a Roman galley slave in "Ben Hur."
• During the last administration, I don't recall a conservative comic posing with what appeared to be a severed head of Obama.
• Did I miss it or during the last administration did the Chairman of the California GOP lead his party's convention in chants of "Fu—Obama"?
• We don't have assassination fantasies played out in public venues – like the current production of Julius Caesar (Political Correctness in the Park) which shows what looks like Donald Trump being stabbed to death by women and minorities, his supposed victims. Among others, the play is sponsored by The New York Times and CNN, which like to feign objectivity.
I'm not blaming Bernie Sanders for the shooting of House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, or Hillary Clinton, even though her husband blamed conservative talk radio for the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, and Sanders blamed "Tea Party rhetoric" for the 2011 shooting of Democratic Rep. Gabby Giffords.
Sanders is an annoying codger who understands less about economics than my 6-year-old grandson. Hillary Clinton lives in a walled estate while calling those who want a border wall or a limitation on immigration from terror-rich countries, "deplorables."
I don't blame Charles Schumer or Nancy Pelosi, who ritualistically denounced this act of barbarism. On the other hand, have you ever heard them condemn Christian persecution in the Muslim world or the anti-cop ravings of Black Lives Matter?
Leftist rhetoric that labels the president a fascist, a racist, a would-be dictator, calls for his overthrow or accuses him of treason (colluding with the Russians to fix the last election), approaches incitement. But don't expect Democratic leaders to denounce any of this. They save their moral indignation for the right.
The left has always been violence-prone, from the French Revolution to the present. Think of the Reign of Terror, the Russian Revolution (and those that followed it), the crimes of the National Socialists, the Weather Underground, the Khmer Rouge killing fields (in an era when Jane Fonda fantasized about shooting down American planes), and other acts of progressive slaughter.
The left's fatal attraction to violence betrays its intellectual impotence.
That impotence is also seen in their mania for limiting free speech and compelling others to violate their conscience. Whether it's about abortion, same-sex marriage or "transgender" rights, they avoid a debate by calling it hate speech. Worse, they would force doctors to perform abortions and town clerks to participate in the travesty called gay marriage, even when they object on the conscience grounds.
With all due respect for Rep. Rodney Davis and other masochistic Republicans, we aren't all to blame for the climate in which a bloodthirsty Bernie supporter (who had a crush on Rachel Maddow) decided to use Republican Congressmen for target practice.
The left has turned viciousness into an art form. Leftists substitute suppression for speech, have infantile temper tantrums when they lose, and rationalize violence when they don't condone it outright.
Or am I guilty of indulging in overheated rhetoric?

Is Bob Mueller the Establishment’s Stalking Horse?

The threats to our constitutional posed by the special counsel investigation.

“The foolish and wicked practice of profane cursing and swearing,” declared George Washington, “is a vice so mean and low that every person of sense and character detests and despises it.” Theodore Roosevelt concurred: “Profanity is the parlance of the fool. Why curse when there is such a magnificent language with which to discourse?” The answer is that profanity is a useful substitute for discourse when one is losing a debate and needs to trump reason with passionate intensity in order to win. That is what is happening in the current degraded state of our national political conversation.
I’m not talking about the cursing that the average American citizen may do in private, which is common enough on both sides of the political fence. I’m not talking about a careless slip of the tongue during a radio interview, or being caught on an open mic letting loose with a profanity. I’m talking about an entire political party which gleefully embraces swearing in speeches and protests, on social media and clothing slogans, in news media and entertainment. I’m talking about public figures from entertainers to talk show hosts to politicians intentionally and unapologetically hurling obscenities.
It should come as no surprise that that political party is the Democratic Party, which is in the grip of the far left, and that those public figures are invariably so-called Progressives.
Needless to say, the following examples come with a maximum-level language alert.
The one notable exception on the right is President Donald Trump himself, who is more publicly self-restrained now but often cursed for colorful emphasis during his election campaign – saying, for example, that he would “bomb the shit out of ISIS.” But Trump is hardly the typical Republican politician, and many on the right disapproved of this kind of vulgarity.
By contrast, Democrats have made public cursing such a kneejerk habit that it’s as if the entire party is afflicted with Tourette’s. Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez told one audience, for example, that Trump “doesn't give a shit about health care.” Rather than disapprove of Perez’s phrasing, the DNC decided to make it a hip slogan and began selling a t-shirt which read, “Democrats give a shit about people.”
The left is fond of such scatological outbursts. Muslim Brotherhood shill and juvenile egotist Reza Aslan tweeted that President Trump is “a piece of shit” so often that CNN was forced to cut him loose.
But the left is really enamored of the F-word. The radical Salon reported that New York Senator Kristen Gillibrand recently dropped multiple F-bombs while discussing Trump during a speech at NYU’s Personal Democracy Forum. “Has he kept his promises?” she asked rhetorically. “No. Fuck no.” As for her party, Gillibrand declared that “if we’re not helping people, we should go the fuck home.” “Good for her,” was Salon’s supportive response to this indecorous outburst. Gizmodo writer Hamilton Nolan agreed: “It’s encouraging to hear more Democrats say ‘fuck.’”
Really? It’s not like Democrats weren’t already reveling in the F-word. In the wake of the shooting of Republican congressman Steve Scalise last Wednesday, HuffPost writer Jesse Benn tweeted this get-well message: “Fuck #SteveScalise.” Since Trump’s election to the presidency, chants of “Fuck Donald Trump!” have rung out from protesters in major urban centers and on campuses across America. The Woman’s March earlier this year was teeming with obscene placards, “pussy” hats, and cries of “Fuck the patriarchy!” Now try to imagine Tea Party protesters leading each other in chants of ‘Fuck Hillary Clinton!” and “Fuck cultural Marxism!” It’s literally unthinkable.

The unhinged former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann, now reduced to delivering comically histrionic rants from what looks like the basement of the GQ magazine offices, recently tweeted at the President, “TO HELL WITH YOU, YOU MOTHERFUCKING TRAITOR.” Olbermann’s Twitter profile pic shows the bespectacled loon draped in a flag and hunched beneath the words, “TRUMP IS F*CKING CRAZY,” which appears to be the title of his upcoming book. Try to imagine any conservative commentator, even the button-pushing Ann Coulter, prominently featuring a profanity in a book title.
And then there’s showbiz. Late night leftist propagandists masquerading as comedians such as Bill Maher, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, and Samantha Bee regularly spew obscenities on their shows. Host Seth Myers, the unfunniest Saturday Night Live alumnus in its four-decade history, gave Trump the middle finger on the air twice in one episode last week. Celebrated stage actress Patti Lupone said in an interview at the Tony Awards that if President Trump came to her show War Paint she wouldn’t perform. “Why is that?” the interviewer asked. “Because I hate the motherfucker,” she said through a tight, mirthless smile. Try to imagine the dignified, openly conservative actor Jon Voight saying the same thing about Barack Obama. Nerdy Joss Whedon, the perpetually apoplectic director of big-budget comic book movies, hinted at a bestiality fetish when he tweeted that he wanted a “rhino to fuck Paul Ryan to death.” No one on the right – not even Greg Gutfeld – could have come up with that.
There is no end to the examples I could list. The evidence is abundantly clear: the left loves vulgarity. What’s that all about?
Some would argue that this is a generational thing, that contemporary culture is simply cruder than in the past, and that swearing comes as naturally as breathing to youth now. Sadly, our culture is indeed cruder, but only because the left has spent the last 50 years pushing the envelope of moral standards in pop culture. But that’s not all there is to it.
Swearing sends a thrill up the left’s collective leg because Marxists and their inheritors, Progressives, consider decency to be a contemptable bourgeois value. Even though leftists control the culture, they still think of themselves as counterculture revolutionaries bucking the Establishment, like teenagers rebelling against their parents.
But there is yet another explanation. The left-leaning UK Guardian noted a University of London study which showed that liberals curse more than conservatives on Twitter; “shit” and “fuck” were among the top ten words used by tweeters on the left (the right, by contrast, featured such words as “God” and “psalm” among its top ten). A linguist who led the study declared that “What we think is going on is that the liberal side are expressing themselves with more emotion.”
And that is the crux of the phenomenon: emotion. Leftists cannot win against the right on the playing field of reasoned debate, because they are animated not by logic and evidence but by feelings. They don’t let facts get in the way of their passionate conviction that they are right and the other side is not merely wrong but evil. And nothing displays passionate conviction quite like cursing. The right believes that public profanity is not just uncivil but unprofessional, and that it delegitimizes one’s argument, whereas Progressives feel that it legitimizes their passion.
After the recent attempted assassination of Republican congressmen, the cry has gone up among decent people across the country for greater civility and mutual respect in our political discourse. Unfortunately that’s not going to happen because, as their obsession with obscenity demonstrates, leftists don’t value decency, civility or respectful dialogue; their aim is to derail the conversation altogether. And that’s a damned shame.

The Left's Obsession With Obscenity

Frontnpagemagazine ^ | June 19, 2017 | Mark Tapson

In Case You Missed It Dept.

FBI former director Jim Comey testified to the Senate Intelligence Committee Thursday and stated his distrust for President Trump. He got so-so reviews. It was a tough time slot for Comey because going onstage after Kathy Griffin's performance last week is like trying to follow Gallagher.

James Comey on Thursday bewailed his cowardice before Obama's Attorney General while he asserted his courage before Trump's. Comey will go down in history as the FBI's greatest drama queen since J. Edgar Hoover. FBI groupies can only speculate how tall Comey would be in high heels.

Lindsey Graham said Robert Mueller's decision to allow his star witness Comey to testify in the Senate indicates the Special Counsel has no case of obstruction against Trump. So the Democrats have no collusion and no obstruction. President Trump could sum it all up in a two-word tweet, Beep-Beep.

President Trump faced reporters in the Rose Garden on Friday feeling vindicated by Comey's testimony. So there's no collusion with the Russians and no obstruction of justice. Maybe the Democrats can impeach Trump for Islamophobia if ISIS will just cooperate and lay low for a month.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee today to rebut fired FBI director Jim Comey. There's no evidence of collusion or obstruction of justice, but the Democrats still think they can get Trump. Camille Cosby just told the Democrats they're in denial.

Dennis Rodman was spotted by CNN in the Beijing Airport Monday en route to North Korea at the invitation of his friend the North Korean dictator Kim Jung Un. It's no secret why Rodman has been invited to North Korea. Kim Jung Un needs help getting his nuclear warhead down from the top shelf.

Vanity Fair suggested this month that Hillary Clinton fade away after Jim Comey testified that Obama's AG Loretta Lynch tried to publicly downgrade the FBI probe of the e-mail scandal. It never ends. To bring Hillary to life the moment she was born, the doctor slapped her with a subpoena.

NBA legend Dennis Rodman landed in North Korea for basketball diplomacy with his pal Kim Jung Un. It's his first visit in three years. It harkens back to a simpler and more innocent time when Dennis Rodman going to North Korea was the weirdest thing you could imagine in American politics.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions stood his ground in Senate hearings Tuesday probing alleged Russian meddling in the campaign. It's absurd. By the time Congress is finished investigating, it will be clear that Bill Cosby colluded with the Russians to interfere with the integrity of our erections.

Senate Democrats wanted to know if Jeff Sessions, a Confederate senator, U.S. judge and Eagle Scout Baby Boomer raised in the Cold War, colluded with Russians. Are you kidding me? Next they're going to see if a leprechaun who rode a unicorn into Brigadoon killed Nicole Brown Simpson.

The Washington Post reported that Special Counsel Bob Mueller will probe President Trump for obstructing the investigation of a crime that never occurred. Anti-Trump gunfire at GOP House members buried the story. If America died tonight, the police would say there were signs of a struggle.

Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill joined to condemn Wednesday's baseball practice shooting. The press reaction was predictable. Fox News blamed social media hysteria, CNN called for gun control, while the New York Times described the shooting of Republicans as Performance Art.

Democrat Jim Hodgkinson was killed by Capitol Police while he fired upon a baseball field of GOP lawmakers. He'd posted it was time to destroy Trump and company. Considering how well we all behaved for America's first black president, we aren't reacting very well to our first orange one.

The House Republican baseball practice attack by a deranged Democrat shocked the world on Wednesday. The shooter stereotyped the fierce independence of thought and action so prevalent in the DNA of Americans. Who needs ISIS when we can terrorize the U.S. government all by ourselves?
