Alan Dershowitz: Special Prosecutor Will Help Trump

The appointment of former FBI Director Robert Mueller to oversee the agency's Russia investigation will aid President Donald Trump, Harvard Law School professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz said Thursday.

"The special prosecutor is supposed to investigate crime," he explained. "Most of the things leveled at the Trump administration are not criminal acts.

"Collaborating with the Russians to get yourself elected, not a criminal act," he added.

"Terrible. But not criminal.

"The same thing is true with leaking information to the Russians."

Dershowitz added that "Mueller has no jurisdiction to explore whether he made political mistakes, did terrible things, engaged in wrongdoing – only criminal conduct."

Because his investigation would be conducted in secret, "we will never find it out," the retired professor said.
