White House, Clinton Tied To PR Firm Behind Electoral College Push (Van Jones)

dailycaller.com ^ | 12/13/14 | Peter Hasson

The public relations firm working behind the scenes with the faithless electors is rife with ties to prominent Democrats like President Obama and twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Megaphone Strategies, whose stated mission is to “use PR as a tool to diversify progressive movements,” typically works with progressive causes like Black Lives Matter. The firm is representing the handful of “faithless electors” trying to keep President-elect Donald Trump from winning the Electoral College vote.

The firm was co-founded by Van Jones, the former green jobs czar in the Obama White House who later resigned after it was revealed he signed a statement questioning whether the Bush administration had a role in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Jones now works as a CNN commentator.

Michigan to audit 'significant' mismatches in Detroit vote...but there is no "VOTER FRAUD" ?

Yahoo ^

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan's elections bureau ordered an investigation Monday into substantial ballot discrepancies in a small portion of Detroit's voting precincts, after the discovery of a polling place where 300 people voted but only 50 ballots were properly sealed in a container.

Since learning of the issue last week during Michigan's presidential recount, state officials have learned of similar "significant mismatch" problems at roughly 20 of Detroit's 490 precincts, said Fred Woodhams, a spokesman for Republican Secretary of State Ruth Johnson. He said there is no reason to think votes were not counted and the differences would not have affected Republican Donald Trump's narrow victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton in the state.
Clinton won 95 percent of Detroit's vote.
Detroit elections officials told the state that in the one precinct, the 250 missing ballots were left in the tabulator bin, "but we want to verify this," Woodhams said. It was not immediately clear what caused the inconsistencies in other precincts.
Clinton cut into Trump's 10,704-vote win by only 102 votes during Michigan's election recount, which was requested by Green Party candidate Jill Stein and which covered more than 40 percent of the statewide vote before courts stopped it.
Many precincts could not be recounted, however — in Detroit and elsewhere — because the number of ballots in a sealed container did not match the number of voter names recorded in the poll book. In such cases, the election night totals stood.
It is not uncommon for there to be slight inconsistencies, typically due to human error.
"But when there's a significant mismatch, that's especially concerning," Woodhams said.
The ballots in question will be taken to the state capital, Lansing, for review. The investigation will take about three weeks.
Roughly 2 million of Michigan's 4.8 million ballots were recounted by hand, including about two-thirds of those in the suburban Detroit suburb of Oakland County and one-third of Wayne County, which includes Detroit.
"We do have a very accurate system that people should have confidence in," Woodhams said.
Clinton picked up 833 votes while Trump gained 731 more.
"It just simply would not have changed the result," Woodhams said of the recount.
A message seeking comment was left with Detroit elections director Daniel Baxter. He has blamed discrepancies on optical scanners that tally paper ballots.
All of Michigan's vote tabulators are at least a decade old — at the end of their life span — and acted their age on Election Day, with numerous malfunctions, state and local officials said. One in five in Detroit was reported affected.
The attorney who represented Stein in her failed recount bid, Mark Brewer, said the mechanical troubles led to an undercount of votes. He estimated nearly 2,000 votes were added as a result before the recount was ordered halted "and we probably would have picked up several thousand more had the recount been allowed to continue."
Detroit has been cash-strapped so maintenance may have been a bigger issue there than elsewhere.
"These machines should have been replaced years ago across the state," Brewer said.
Michigan plans to have new scanners in place for the 2018 elections.
Before the announcement Monday, both GOP and Democratic lawmakers had called for an investigation into the irregularities. House Democrats criticized the Detroit Department of Elections while Republicans said a probe was needed to determine if there was fraud or negligence.
Sen. Patrick Colbeck, a Canton Republican, on Monday welcomed the audit and said all problems should be documented.
"This needs to be done while memories are fresh in order to help devise a plan to eliminate such concerns for future elections," he said.

Mainstream Media Scream: Media tries to delegitimize Trump's victory!

The Washington Examiner ^ | 12/12/16 | PAUL BEDARD

This week's Mainstream Media Scream features one of many media efforts to question the legitimacy of President-elect Trump's victory by highlighting concerns that the Russians influenced the election on his behalf.
On CBS Face the Nation, for example, Slate's chief political correspondent, Jamelle Bouie, raised the specter that the "election was In some sense illegitimate."
Host John Dickerson: Jamelle, as Michael [Duffy of Time magazine] points out, that the distinction here on the CIA and what they seem to have found, what's new here. We heard about Russian involvement potentially while the election was going on, but what seems to be new is that it was targeted to help Donald Trump. That seems to be the new development – that in order to just update people on where things are.
Slate's Jamelle Bouie: Right, exactly. We've sort of had to acknowledge and suspicion that the Russian government has been involved in, you know, helping leak documents like and engaging in election interference that way, but that's different. That's materially different than the suggestion that, hey, they were doing this specifically to help Donald Trump.
I'm sort of in this place right now where I'm not entirely sure, beyond investigations, beyond sort of serious scrutiny of this, what we do about this, because it really is unprecedented. And if — if it is true, if we have further verification of this, then what it suggests potentially is that the election was in some sense illegitimate. And I don't know where you go from there.

A Primer on Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS)

Accuracy in Academia ^ | December 13, 2016 | Malcolm A. Kline

College professors and their minions lost a presidential election for the first time in eight years and don't know how to handle it.
On college campuses, puppies, coloring books and crying towels are all the rage as professors and students alike try to come to terms with the election results. When we go to the Modern Language Association (MLA) convention in January we will be on the lookout for thumb-sucking and security blankets.
"It's hard not to see Trump’s triumph as a repudiation of everything that universities stand for: free speech, open inquiry, inclusion, and civility; logic, reason and the relentless pursuit of truth and wisdom," NYU's Eric Klinenberg wrote in The Chronicle Review on November 25, 2016. (Actually, from what we've seen, "everything that universities stand for" is most endangered by denizens of the universities themselves: Tufts student government, for example, voted down the First Amendment.)
"Academe, as it turns out, has been a very safe space for loathing Donald Trump," Jack Stripling wrote in The Chronicle of Higher Education. But actually liking him is quite another story.
"On several college campuses, the mere appearance of Donald Trump's name written in chalk fueled unrest along racial lines," Stripling wrote in an article which appeared on November 18, 2016. Delta State University and Emory were two of these, according to Stripling.
Really, how did all of those voters who did not vote for President Obama manage to go through eight years of seeing that familiar "O" logo without flipping out? And no one even gave them a puppy!

‘Unprecedented White House attempt to smear incoming president’

https://www.rt.com/op-edge/370160-trump-russia-cia-ties/ ^ | 12-13-2016 | staff

It is unprecedented for American democracy to blame a foreign power for influencing an election and use that as a tool to overturn the democratic process.... ....The White House has made some new allegations against President-elect Donald Trump over his supposed ties with Russia.

According to the editor of Defense & Foreign Affairs publications Gregory R Copley, “the White House is doing something almost unprecedented in US presidential history and the history of transitions. It is trying to go to great length to discredit an incoming administration. What is remarkable is how softly President-elect Trump is responding to this – not reacting to the incredible and vituperative nature of the attacks on him and on the attempts to smear him with the allegations of foreign aid for his election victory.”

Obama & State Dept: $350K For Campaign Infrastructure Used Against Netanyahu In Israel Election!

Cybercast News Service ^ | December 12, 2016 | 2:52 PM EST | Michael W. Chapman

According to the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations (PSI), the State Department gave $349,276 in U.S. taxpayer-funded grants to a political group in Israel to build a campaign operation, which subsequently was used to try to influence Israelis to vote against conservative Benjamin Netanyahu in the March 2015 election for prime minister. (what a stupid thing to do)

In the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations report about the State Department’s action, Chairman Bob Portman (R-Ohio) said, “It is completely unacceptable that U.S. taxpayer dollars were used to build a political campaign infrastructure that was deployed — immediately after the grant ended — against the leader [Netanyahu] of our closest ally in the Middle East. American resources should be used to help our allies in the region, not undermine them.” …

Watchdog: Obama Spent $100 Million to Transport Foreign Migrants to Their U.S. Destinations

Breitbart News ^ | December 12, 2016 | Katie McHugh

The Immigration Reform Law Institute revealed that a border protection agency has spent more than $100 million in taxpayers’ cash transporting young Central American migrants from the Texas border to ... destinations in the USA..... “the administration has been less than forthcoming [for 2 years] and why they’ve repeatedly tried to blame the costly… surge [of migrants] on Central American crime rather than its own amnesty policies.”
The decision to spend $100 million since 2014 to help the migrants adds “insult to injury,” ...
Under rules set by Obama, ICE must classify most Central American migrants as asylum seekers,... assigns agents to work at holding centers, pays for hotel rooms to house migrants, and escorts them to people in the U.S. interior who claim to be the migrants’ relatives, including resident illegal aliens and employers of illegal immigrants.
[25% on hotels; 58% on plane tickets.]
The government is burning through taxpayer cash, according to the Washington Times:
Government figures obtained by the Immigration Reform Law Institute:... ICE spent ... $665 per juvenile in 2014,...
ICE will spend about $4.5 million flying children nabbed at the border in October, and north of $100 million since 2014…
Obama’s deputies are delivering an average of 255 illegal alien minors per day...
The relentless surge of migration also means domestic programs that help vulnerable Americans being cut to fund the migration: The Democratic administration slashed funds from cancer research, disabilities services to spend at least $167 million so HHS can feed, house, clothe, transport, and amuse the migrants.
Another immigration reform group found that in October alone, immigration authorities temporarily apprehended 46,195 illegal aliens attempting to cross the border, the most extreme surge since June 2014. More than 300,000 migrants have been let into the country.... since 2012.

Global Warming Law Would Cost Average Household $13,703

Daily Caller ^ | 5:04 PM 12/12/2016 | Andrew Follett

The U.K.’s Climate Change Act of 2008 will cost the average British household about $13,703 by the year 2030, according to a new report by The Global Warming Policy Foundation (GWPF).
The levies, taxes and subsidies associated with the Climate Change Act cost the average British household $415 in 2014 alone, which will rise to an estimated $791 annually by 2020 and $1,110 each year by 2030, according to the report. The total costs of the policy will add up to three times the annual British National Health Service (NHS) budget.
GWPF’s report says that the government only considered about one-third of the Act’s total costs while simultaneously overestimating potential savings from energy efficiency. GWPF claims that the British government excluded higher energy costs and taxes as well as committing much of the costs of wind and solar power. …

Trump rally could mark biggest postelection stock market rise since Hoover!

marketwatch.com ^ | December 13, 2016 | Sue Chang

If the postelection stock market rally continues at its current pace it could be the largest stretching back to the gains scored in the wake of Herbert Hoover’s 1928 election victory.
Major indexes are trading at record levels with the S&P 500 SPX, -0.11% up more than 5% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.20% rising 7.8% since Nov. 8 over optimism that President-elect Trump will usher in a new era of economic boom on the back of higher fiscal spending and pro-growth policies.
Blogger Macro Man on Monday noted that the Trump surge is already among the biggest following an election going back more than a century. For historical context, the blog looked as far back as 1896, tracking the market’s performance between election day and inauguration and then the following 12 months after a new president has been sworn in.
“The Trumpflation rally is already quite a bit bigger than average, though there have been postwar rallies that have been bigger (Clinton, JFK, Ike.). Then again, we’re only halfway between the election and the inauguration; if the market keeps this up, it will be the biggest postelection rally since [Herbert] Hoover,” according to Macro Man.
Like Macro Man, Joe Abbott, chief quantitative strategist at Yardeni Research, also found the near-term portents encouraging.
Among Trump’s many pledges, the one that is easiest to implement, by Yardeni’s reckoning, is the proposal to lower taxes on repatriated earnings to 10% from 35%, which could trigger an inflow of up to $2.4 trillion to the U.S.
“Using that money for stock repurchases would provide a brand new and even stronger buyback incentive,” said Yardeni. “Companies could buy back their shares without using funds that first have to be borrowed in the bond market.”

An Electoral College Coup: The Clinton campaign now suggests the election was rigged!

Wall Street Journal ^ | December 12, 2016

Only a few weeks ago Hillary Clinton’s campaign was denouncing Donald Trump as un-American for saying the election might be “rigged.” We criticized Mr. Trump at the time. But now that Mrs. Clinton has lost, her campaign is claiming the election really was rigged, albeit for Mr. Trump by Russian meddling, and it wants the Electoral College to stage what amounts to a coup.

That’s the only way to interpret the extraordinary statement Monday by Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta endorsing a special intelligence briefing for electors a week before they cast their ballots for President on Dec. 19. He released the statement hours after 10 members of the Electoral College sent a letter to Director of National Intelligence James Clapper seeking information on foreign interference in the election to judge if Mr. Trump “is fit to serve.” One of those electors is House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s daughter.
“The bipartisan electors’ letter raises very grave issues involving our national security. Electors have a solemn responsibility under the Constitution and we support their efforts to have their questions addressed,” Mr. Podesta said. “We now know that the CIA has determined Russia’s interference in our elections was for the purpose of electing Donald Trump. This should distress every American.”
What should really distress Americans is that the losers are trying to overturn the election results based on little more than anonymous leaks and innuendo. Whatever Russia’s hacking motives, there is no evidence that the emails it turned up were decisive to the election result. Mr. Podesta is citing a CIA judgment that Americans have never seen and whose findings are vaguely public only because one or more unidentified officials chose to relate them to a few reporters last week.
