10 Quotes to Help You Preserve Your Moral Sanity

Townhall.com ^ | October 6, 2015 | Michael Brown

More than once in the last few years I’ve asked myself the question, “Has the whole world gone mad? Has everyone in our society lost the ability to think clearly? Are people no longer able to process facts and information? Are they so dominated by their emotions and by sound bites that truth and logic don’t seem to matter?”

I remember vividly talking to a young man at a rally in Charlotte, NC a few months ago. The rally was surrounding the so-called “bathroom bill” that would have made all of the city’s public bathrooms and locker rooms gender-neutral.

This young man, who was in favor of the bill, told me that it was “primitive” for hospitals to determine the gender of a baby (as in, “It’s a boy!” or “It’s a girl!”) based on the baby’s biological and chromosomal sex. Primitive! Instead, gender was whatever you perceived it to be – presumably at any given point in time.

How do you reason with someone like that? What facts can you present to change their minds? And what do you say to someone who says, “If you believe you’re a horse, you can use the stable?” (That was another conversation I had that night.)

In times like this, it’s good to remember some of these quotes. They will help you preserve your moral sanity.

1. “In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” (George Orwell). Even if the whole world has gone mad, speak the truth anyway. It’s the revolutionary thing to do.

2. “Right is right even if nobody does it. Wrong is wrong even if everybody is wrong about it.” (G. K. Chesterton) Right and wrong have never been determined by majority rule or by societal trends or by public opinion. So do what is right because it is right.

3. “For we can do nothing against the truth but only for the truth.” (The apostle Paul, 2 Corinthians 13:8) Kingdoms will come and go; giant mountains will crumble into the dust; the entire physical world will be shaken one day. But God’s truth will remain stable and firm. Be sure to stand with the truth, not against it.

4. “The truth is like a lion; you don’t have to defend it. Let it loose; it will defend itself.” (Augustine) Be bold. Propagate the truth. Get the message out without apology. The truth will fight for itself.

5. “Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened.” (Billy Graham) Why not determine to be that brave man or woman? If you do this in your private life you will soon be doing it in your public life. Perhaps you’ll actually help spark a revolution.

6. “A dead thing can go with the stream, but only a living thing can go against it.” (G. K. Chesterton) Are you dead or alive? Then prove it by swimming against the tide and going against the grain.

7. “Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.” (C. S. Lewis) If you live to please God, you will never be disappointed. He sees your heart and He knows the truth, and when no one else is watching, He is watching intently.

8. “Cowardice asks the question, is it safe? Expediency ask the question, is it politic? Vanity asks the question, is it popular? But, conscience ask the question, is it right? And there comes a time when we must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because it is right.” (Martin Luther King, Jr.) Now is that time. Enough said.

9. “The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the LORD blows on it; surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:7-8) Count on it. When the names of the most famous men and women of this generation are long forgotten, God’s Word will be standing strong.

10. “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.” (Jesus, Matthew 24:35) Count on this too. When the boasts and threats of radical Islam no longer exist, when the mockery of the new atheists is remembered with pity, when the voice of the hostile media is no longer heard, when internet is looked at as a primitive antique, the words of Jesus will still be revered.

So, with this in mind, keep on doing what is right and speaking what is right and living what is right. You will be vindicated in the end.

President ‘Mumbo-Jumbo’

The Wall Street Journal ^ | Oct. 5, 2015 | Bret Stephens
David Petraeus testified last month to the Senate Armed Services Committee on U.S. policy in the Middle East. Regarding Syria, the former general and CIA director urged a credible threat to destroy Bashar Assad’s air force if it continues to bomb its own people. He also recommended “the establishment of enclaves in Syria protected by coalition air power, where a moderate Sunni force could be supported and where additional forces could be trained, internally displaced persons could find refuge, and the Syrian opposition could organize.”
But Barack Obama does not agree. At his Friday press conference, the president described such views as “mumbo-jumbo,” “half-baked ideas,” “as-if” solutions, a willful effort to “downplay the challenges involved in the situation.” He says the critics have no answers to the questions of “what exactly would you do and how would you fund it and how would you sustain it.”
America’s greatest living general might as well have been testifying to his shower drain for all the difference his views are going to make in this administration.
So it is with this president. It’s not enough for him to stake and defend his positions. He wants you to know that he thinks deeper, sees further, knows better, operates from a purer motive. His preferred method for dealing with disagreement is denigration. If Republicans want a tougher line in Syria, they’re warmongers. If Hillary Clinton thinks a no-fly zone is a good idea, she’s playing politics: “There is obviously a difference,” the president tut-tutted about his former secretary of state’s position, “between running for president and being president.”
You can interpret that jab as a sign Mr. Obama is urging Joe Biden to run. It’s also a reminder that Mr. Obama...

Political Correctness, Not Critical Thinking, is the Key to Our Demise!

Canada Free Press ^ | 10/06/15 | Leigh Bravo

We must get back to common sense, logic and critical thinking and it must begin at home and within our educational institutions
We have all heard it before. Students at colleges and universities around the country are demanding that anyone who has a differing opinion than their own should be tarred, feathered, banned and removed from their sight. Student groups claim that inviting anyone with a differing opinion onto their campus threatens their very safety or well-being. Sound ridiculous? Leaders at these educational institutions are listening to these demands resulting in the creation of a generation that is single-minded, self-absorbed, and intolerant of others all while the same generation demands a voice, respect and tolerance from others.
What happened to “teaching our kids how to think and not what to think?” This old adage is truly at the core of critical thinking and should be practiced at all learning institutions around the country. When a university or college stops exposing our children to differing opinions or ways of life, then we are doomed to live a life that no longer offers diversity, but demands that we all live, act and believe the same.

Guns Don’t Kill People—Liberals Kill People!

Canada Free Press ^ | 10/06/15 | tim dunkin

You think individual left-wing fruitcakes on Ritalin are dangerous? Just wait until left-wing government gets into power without a citizenry that is broadly and heavily armed
By now the reader is well-aware of the recent school shooting that took place at Umpqua Community College in Rosedale, Oregon. Another mass shooting, another excuse for the left-wing vultures to prey on the carcasses of the dead. Another opportunity for Pres__ent Obama to grandstand and huff and sigh and affect an air of righteous indignation. Another occasion for left-wingers to roll their eyes and complain about how even after this shooting, those dastardly right-wingers still won’t support “common sense gun laws.”
The reason we don’t, of course, is because the left-wingers are still making the same old, nonsensical, discredited arguments that they always do. As always, the ideas they’re floating yet again would do nothing to stop a mass shooting such as occurred at UCC. They propose universal background checks after a case in which the shooter passed the stringent background checks that Oregon already imposes. They want to ban “assault rifles” and “high-capacity magazines” in response to a shooting spree which involved neither. They have literally no new ideas for dealing with these mass shootings, so it’s not surprising that normal people will continue to reject their “solutions.” Essentially, the left-wing solution is to punish millions of people who didn’t commit a crime.

The Obama Vendetta Against Netanyahu

Council on Foreign Relations ^ | October 2, 2015 | Elliot Abrams

When Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to the UN General Assembly this week, neither Secretary of State Kerry nor even our UN Ambassador, Samantha Power, was present.
Why not? The State Department has said Kerry was involved in some kind of conference call or video conference with the White House. OK, let’s call that plausible. What about Power?
Rick Grenell, for years the spokesman at the US Mission to the UN and a very well-informed observer, tweeted yesterday that Power was instructed to stay away.
Think of how petty that instruction, which can only have come from the White House, really is. To sit in the seat and listen to Netanyahu isn’t endorsing his remarks, it is the politeness we owe an ally. Deliberate absence recalls the years in which dozens of delegations, Arab and “Third World,” would leave the chamber when any Israeli rose to speak. This administration is still griping about diplomatic errors Netanyahu has made, but a refusal to have the US ambassador listen to his speech is petty and damaging, hinting to anti-Israel delegations that the United States may be willing to let all sorts of anti-Israel measures go without opposition or criticism.
This is a low point for seven years of Obama diplomacy. I’ll admit to surprise that Kerry, who appears to value diplomatic niceties greatly (and arguably too much) let this happen. But perhaps he knew nothing about it or was overruled by the White House.
As for Samantha Power, one has to wonder what was running through her mind when she was instructed to stay away. Is this really why she left the academic and intellectual life– to be used by the Obama administration to insult and damage Israel?
