U.S. Military Trained Top ISIS Commander

The New American ^ | 17 September 2015 | Alex Newman

One of the Islamic State's top military commanders was actually trained by U.S. Special Forces in the nation of Georgia before taking up arms for ISIS in Syria, according to a variety of sources quoted in an explosive new report by the McClatchy news agency. Another member of the Obama administration’s supposed “anti-ISIS” coalition, the Wahhabi-Islamic dictatorship in Saudi Arabia, played a key role radicalizing the jihadist leader through a hard-core Islamist mosque it funded near his village. In other words, without the direct assistance of key “anti-ISIS” governments — including Washington, D.C. — the man said to be ISIS' most fearsome and skilled military leader would almost certainly never have arrived in Syria to wage ruthless war on infidels in the first place. But ISIS commander Tarkhan Batirashvili (shown), who now calls himself Abu Omar al Shishani, is hardly the only one.
As explosive evidence and news reports continue to emerge highlighting the trend, it is becoming increasingly difficult to tell where ISIS begins and the globalist establishment ends. Among other revelations, Vice President Joe Biden, speaking at Harvard, admitted that Obama's “anti-ISIS” coalition had funded and armed various terrorist groups in Syria that went on to become ISIS. Later, U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Martin Dempsey revealed in Senate testimony that Sunni Arab dictators in Obama's “anti-ISIS” coalition were not just supporting ISIS — they were funding it. Next, a 2012 U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency report released under the Freedom of Information Act exposed the fact that Western powers and their Islamic dictator allies were supporting Islamic terrorists and wanted to see a fundamentalist Islamic State created in Eastern Syria. And finally, the former chief of DIA went on TV and spilled the beans on Obama's "willful" support to Islamic terrorists while distancing himself from the deadly policies.
The McClatchy report, then, is only the latest shoe to drop in a long train of revelations directly linking the U.S. government and its allies to ISIS and jihad more broadly. Headlined “U.S. training helped mold top Islamic State military commander,” the September 15 article by special correspondent Mitchell Prothero contains a treasure trove of information about the U.S.-trained terrorist gathered from interviews with a wide range of sources, including many close to the ongoing Syrian war. In essence, the report paints a troubling picture of Batirashvili's background, and offers much insight into how he became a leading ISIS commander responsible for a number of critical victories secured by the terrorist group. From his U.S. military training in Georgia to his radicalization in a Saudi-funded mosque, the piece provides still more evidence about the utter failure — or outright insanity, perhaps even criminality — surrounding what Washington, D.C., likes to characterize as “foreign policy.”
According to the McClatchy report, the 30-year-old Batirashvili (a.k.a. Abu Omar) is a “key figure” in ISIS, reportedly serving on the ISIS “governing council” in addition to being the terror group's “supreme military leader in northern Syria and Aleppo.” The report, citing his military prowess obtained from U.S. training and a number of critical military victories he led over Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad's forces, also refers to him as “perhaps the group’s most fearsome ground commander.” And there is a good reason for that: your tax dollars. “We trained him well, and we had lots of help from America,” an unidentified former Georgian defense official told the news agency, asking not to be named because of the sensitivity of the terrorist's role in ISIS. “In fact, the only reason he didn’t go to Iraq to fight alongside America was that we needed his skills here in Georgia.”
Batirashvili's former comrades in the Georgian military echoed the praise for the terrorist's military abilities and told McClatchy that he was “immediately” recruited into Georgia's U.S.-trained special forces upon enlistment. Again, your tax dollars — and your sons serving in the U.S. military — played a crucial role in transforming Batirashvili from an impoverished Muslim Chechen villager into a brutal and well-trained commander whose forces are now busily decapitating Christians and selling children into sex slavery to fund jihad. “He was a perfect soldier from his first days, and everyone knew he was a star,” explained a former military comrade of Batirashvili, who also requested anonymity because he was violating orders by speaking to the press about the issue. “We were well trained by American special forces units, and he was the star pupil.”
Of course, the U.S. government training for Batirashvili and other soldiers in Georgia did not take place with the explicit goal of producing future military leaders for a group of savages styling themselves the Islamic State. Instead, similar in many ways to what happened with Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, the U.S. government plan, supposedly at least, was to help the government of Georgia defend itself against potential aggression from the Kremlin. And indeed, according to sources interviewed for the McClatchy report, Batirashvili fought well against Russian strongman Vladimir Putin's forces, first as a Chechen rebel, and later as a U.S.-trained Georgian Special Forces officer.
While Batirashvili came from an isolated Islamic enclave in the largely Christian nation, Batirashvili and others from his region had traditionally followed a moderate strain of Islam, so-called Sufi Islam. But Sufi Muslims are often considered heretics by their more radical coreligionists in places such as Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan. Eventually, thanks to generous funding from the U.S.-allied Saudi dictatorship, hardcore Wahhabi Islam would soon make its mark on the Chechen enclave in Georgia — and on Batirashvili in particular. The same phenomenon has happened around the world.
According to McClatchy, the moderate version of Islam followed by locals from Batirashvili's region came under pressure in the year 2000, when the Saudi regime financed the construction of a new mosque for the handful of ethnic Chechen villages in the Georgian valley. A local community leader quoted in the article explained that this new mosque “preached a kind of alien Wahhabi-style Islam” — the same radical Islam that the Saudi monarchy, a key member of Obama's “anti-ISIS” coalition, has for generations been trying to propagate around the world with lavish funding from its oil revenues. “It told our people that it was wrong to pray at graves of saints and ancestors, as our people have done for hundreds of years, and even to share our religious rites with our Christian brothers,” the community leader said. Other residents told the news agency that by the mid-2000s, the new Saudi-backed mosque had split the local Muslim community in two, with older Muslims sticking to their traditional faith while younger villagers became radicalized in the new mosque.
Then, the globalist-engineered civil war broke out in Syria after years of U.S. taxpayer funding for Syrian opposition groups exposed in official U.S. diplomatic cables. At that point, the radicalized young Muslim villagers in Georgia affiliated with the Saudi mosque — prepared for violent jihad through years of Saudi-funded radical teachings — began an exodus to go wage holy war in Syria. “They all started leaving for Syria,” the community elder told McClatchy. “Things are safer here now because all the radicals — our children — have gone to Syria.” The report also notes that the radicalized Batirashvili served as an excellent recruiting tool for ISIS, attracting jihadists from across central Asia to join the jihad on the “apostate” dictator of Syria.
It is impossible to know how many other ISIS fighters from around the world were also radicalized in mosques funded by members of the “anti-ISIS” coalition, or how many of those fighters received training from the U.S. military under various guises. But without a doubtthere are many. In fact, Obama's alleged plan to fight ISIS — training and equipping so-called moderate jihadists to fight more radical jihadists — was exposed as a monumental failure this week. Testifying before the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee on September 16, General Lloyd Austin, the top U.S. military commander for the Middle East, admitted that just “four or five” of Obama's U.S.-trained jihadists were actually fighting against ISIS in Syria. On the other hand, as The New American and others have documented extensively, far more than that are currently fighting with ISIS, al-Qaeda, and other terrorist groups across Syria — often with heavy U.S. weapons. Indeed, entire brigades of U.S.-trained rebels have joined terror groups orsigned agreements with them to fight Assad.
As a direct consequence of the Obama administration's lawless so-called “foreign policy” machinations, hundreds of thousands are dyingmillions are fleeing their homes, refugees are swamping EuropeMiddle Eastern Christians are facing genocide, and the national security threat to the United States is growing stronger by the day. Now, all those crises are being exploited by the same globalists who created them to push more of the same insanity.
It is time for Congress to shut down this farce and hold everyone responsible for it accountable.

The Trouble with Kids Today (it's all about IQ after all)

The Federalist ^ | 9/19/15 | Murray

...IQ has a substantial direct correlation with measures of success in life, and it is also correlated with a variety of other characteristics that promote success...
...It’s not just that the IQ gap in working-class and upper-middle-class communities has gotten wider. The life penalties associated with low IQ have risen since 1960. If you focus on the economic changes since 1960, those with low IQ have faced a labor market in which the market value of a strong back has dropped while the value of brains has soared...
...If you focus on the reforms and social programs of the 1960s, the reductions in immediate penalties for destructive behavior (e.g., doing drugs, dropping out of school, grabbing purses, having a baby without marriage) had the most effect on people who were impulsive, attracted to immediate gratification, and unable to foresee long-term consequences—qualities associated with low IQ. The effects of such changes in incentives among the smart were much smaller....

30-Year Trade Deficit with Mexico

Natural Born Conservative ^ | September 19, 2015 | Larry Walker II

Trump Nails It

Last year our trade deficit with Mexico totaled $53.8 billion, and is projected to end about the same in 2015. When the last three decades are summed, we find that the United States 30-year trade deficit with Mexico amounts to $910.2 billion. Although this has been great for Mexico, it hasn’t been so great for the United States.
Looking back over the last 30 years, we find that the United States actually ran trade surpluses with Mexico in 1991 through 1994, and then came the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA - 1994). Since NAFTA, the United States annual trade deficits with Mexico have totaled $897.8 billion (since 1995). By comparison, the deficit amounted to just $13.7 billion during the 9 years preceding NAFTA.
2015 $31.2 billion (through July)
2014 $53.8 billion
2013 $54.5 billion
2012 $61.7 billion
2011 $64.6 billion
2010 $66.3 billion
2009 $47.8 billion
2008 $64.7 billion
2007 $74.8 billion
2006 $64.5 billion
2005 $49.9 billion
2004 $45.2 billion
2003 $40.6 billion
2002 $37.1 billion
2001 $30.0 billion
2000 $24.6 billion
1999 $22.8 billion
1998 $15.9 billion
1997 $14.5 billion
1996 $17.5 billion
1995 $15.8 billion
1994 ($1.3) billion (surplus)
1993 ($1.6) billion (surplus)
1992 ($5.4) billion (surplus)
1991 ($2.1) billion (surplus)
1990 $1.9 billion
1989 $2.2 billion
1988 $2.6 billion
1987 $5.7 billion
1986 $4.9 billion
1985 $5.5 billion
Not only are we losing in trade with Mexico, but the Mexican government has allowed millions of its own citizens, and those from nations to its south, to pour over our southern border illegally. That’s right! The Mexican government has been mostly complicit, looking the other way while tens of thousands boarded trains from its southernmost to its northernmost border, allowing them to cross our border without any resistance. Although lately Mexico claims to be clamping down on illegal border crossings, the damage has already been done.
There are folks both left and right who say, “Free-trade is good for America, because it allows us to work less and buy cheaper goods.” Although plausible on paper, the theory fails once we tally the last thirty years results. Looking back over the last 30 years, we discover that not only has the U.S. lost nearly $5.0 trillion in national wealth ($4 trillion to China and $1 trillion to Mexico alone), but according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, manufacturing jobs in the U.S. have declined from 18.0 million in 1985 to just 12.3 million as of August 2015.
According to Raymond Richman (Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago and Professor Emeritus of Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh), “We should end our huge chronic trade deficits which have decimated our manufacturing sector and caused the loss of millions of good American manufacturing jobs. Our policy should be balanced trade which economic theory supports rather than free trade which is supported by economic theory only when countries have a common currency and free movement of capital and labor (as among the States of the United States). We should use the “Scaled Tariff” (our invention!), a single-country-variable-tariff that rises as trade deficits widen significantly, whatever the reason, and are reduced to zero as trade is brought into balance.”
Once aware that our flawed trade policy has resulted in the siphoning away of more than $5 trillion in national wealth ($1 trillion to Mexico alone) and 6 million manufacturing jobs, it should be easy to understand how Mexico will pay for the new border wall. Mr. Trump has his finger on two of the most glaring problems with our economy, illegal immigration and our Lose-Lose foreign trade policy. Balancing our trade deficit, by any means necessary, is a vital component in the quest to make America great again.

Trump actually trounces Bush among Hispanic voters ^ | Friday, September 18, 2015 3:30 pm | Charles D. Ellison

... Trump actually trounces Bush among Hispanic voters 37 percent to 29 percent.
The only candidate who fares better among Latinos is a non-Republican: Hillary Clinton at 60 percent. Still, her Latino support drops four percentage points when she is matched up against Trump in a hypothetical general election.
And conventional wisdom conveniently forgets that modern presidential elections cycles have shown, on average, a fairly consistent 30 percent Latino vote for the Republican nominee, a figure that privately worries Democrats....
Whereas 88 percent of Hispanic Democrats in the Univision poll released shortly after Trump’s bizarre anti-Mexican rant found his comments offensive, a noticeable 37 percent of Hispanic Republicans and 27 percent of Hispanic Independents said they didn’t....
When most would expect near unanimous Hispanic disgust with Trump, a late August YouGov poll showed him with 26-percent favorability among Latinos, a more than 10 percentage point increase since YouGov polled respondents several days after his entry into the race...
It’s not in the 30 percent or more range like Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz or Jeb Bush, but it’s still an impressive quarter of an electorate that should be universally hating him.
A later August 5th Gravis Marketing poll also showed him leading among Republican primary contenders with 37.8 percent of the Hispanic vote. Even with a much more cautious Aug. 27th Quinnipiac poll, Trump received a 22 percent Latino favorability rating, and actually gained a few percentage points more when matched up in a hypothetical general election against Joe Biden.
And not only did 27 percent of Latinos surveyed, according to Quinnipiac, find him “trustworthy,” but 48 percent were convinced he displays “strong leadership qualities.”

FACT CHECK: WAPO blasts CNN for lying about Trump and Muslims

breitbart. ^ | 9/19/2015 | John Nolte

The left-wing CNN was taken to task Saturday by no less than the left-wing Washington Post after CNN anchor Anderson Cooper was caught red-handed lying about Donald Trump. On his show Friday night, the increasingly shrill Cooper claimed that Trump said, “[W]e’re going to be looking at that, we’re going to be looking at the Muslims in America.”
That’s a lie.
Trump said no such thing.
Not even close.
And Anderson Cooper know this because the video of the exchange between Trump and a questioner who was obviously misled by Hillary Clinton’s lies about Obama’s faith has already been played and replayed more times than the Zapruder film.
Here’s the actual exchange:
Q: We have a problem in this country. It’s called Muslims. We know our current president is one.
A: Right.
Q: You know he’s not even an American.
A: We need this question. This is the first question!
Q: But anyway, we have training camps brewing where they want to kill us. That’s my question, when can we get rid of ’em?
A: We’re going to be looking at a lot of different things. A lot of people are saying that, and you know, a lot of people are saying bad things are happening out there. We’re going to be looking at that and plenty of other things.
It is painfully obvious that the man’s question is about terror training camps. We know this because the questioner says “that’s my question” right after bringing up training camps. After being called out for this lie by a guest, Cooper tried to deflect with a bizarre boast about his passport, “Andy, I’ve been overseas more than you have in your whole little life,” Cooper said. Because that’s relevant.

Huckabee Rips Obama’s Choice for Army Sec.: ‘Homosexuality Is Not a Job Qualification’

mediaite ^ | September 19th, 2015 | Josh Feldman

Mike Huckabee isn’t happy with President Obama‘s decision to appoint an openly gay man as the next Secretary of the Army.

Eric Fanning, the current acting Under Secretary of Army, was selected by Obama this week, which would make him the first openly gay man to lead any branch of the U.S. military.
And while The Washington Post notes his sexuality isn’t really a big deal to the Army or to even some Republicans in Congress, leave it to Huckabee to crank up the outrage-ometer with this statement today:
It’s clear President Obama is more interested in appeasing America’s homosexuals than honoring America’s heroes. Veterans suicide is out-of-control and military readiness is dangerously low, yet Obama is so obsessed with pandering to liberal interest groups he’s nominated an openly gay civilian to run the Army. Homosexuality is not a job qualification. The U.S. military is designed to keep Americans safe and complete combat missions, not conduct social experiments.
Huckabee said something similar last month when asked about transgender soldiers, because obviously allowing non-straight people to serve their country openly with honor and dignity is a “social experiment.”

Trump will benefit from W.H. denying knowledge of Muslim terror training camps in America!

Coach is Right ^ | 9/19/15 | Kevin "Coach" Collins

The first reliable post-debate poll(you remember the one the media told us Carly Fiorina won?) is out and it shows Donald Trump increasing his before and after lead.
The media knew it hadn’t made the sale when they tried to force us to believe Trump’s performance (admittedly not anything special) meant he was finished. It didn’t work. Nevertheless, the Wile E. Coyotes of Beltwayville ordered up a new shipment from the Acme Dynamite Company, along with plans to blow up Trump’s campaign over the fact that an audience member at a New Hampshire rally called Barack Hussein Obama a Muslim and Trump didn’t “correct” him. They imagine that all of America is so outraged about this that they are ready to pick up Jeb Bush and carry him on their shoulders all the way to the White House.
That is not very likely; and this will not be the end of the matter. The same Granite State questioner also mentioned the Muslim terrorist camps that proliferate across America. This is a problem for the Trump haters.
The fire the left was hoping would burn down Trump’s campaign will now burn down the tall grass those in Obama’s Administration-and probably Obama himself-have been hiding in regarding these terrorist training camps on American soil. Reliable organizations say these camps may number as many as thirty five; and some have been investigated by the FBI.
This will be yet another issue Trump can force into the conversation then reap the benefits of the discussion.
An Obama spokes-liar says the White House doesn’t...

Hillary, who started “Obama is a Muslim” thing in 2008, appalled Trump might think Obama's a Muslim!

Hot Air ^ | September 18, 2015 | Allahpundit

Is the word “started” too strong? How about “popularized”? “Amplified”? “Attempted to capitalize on politically”? We can split these hairs as finely as you’d like.
Here’s what she said today about Trump’s now-famous Q&A last night, via Mediaite:
“He knew or he should have known that what that man was asking was not only way out of bounds, it was untrue,” she continued. “And he should have, from the beginning, repudiated that kind of rhetoric, that level of hatefulness in a questioner in an audience that he was appearing before. So I would call on him and call on all of the candidates to stop this descent into the kind hateful, mean-spirited, divisive rhetoric that we have seen too much of in the last months.”…
“I think it is prejudiced, I think it is discriminatory, and I think that it comes out of the unfortunate reservoir of hateful rhetoric that we have seen too much of where people are being set against one another, and that has no place in our politics,” she said.
Slate, February 25, 2008:
Today, the Drudge Report posted a big, fat headline that howled, “Clinton staffers circulate ‘dressed’ Obama.” Accompanying the headline was a picture of Obama on a diplomatic trip to Kenya in 2006, wearing some type of traditional dress of the area—complete with a turban-looking headdress…
First, the Obama campaign sent around a press release at 9:29 a.m. from campaign manager David Plouffe, in which he said the photo is “exactly the kind of divisive politics that turns away Americans of all parties and diminishes respect for America in the world.”
Then, at 10:54 a.m., Clinton’s campaign manager, Maggie Williams, pierced the quiet with her own release. “Enough,” she wrote. “If Barack Obama’s campaign wants to suggest that a photo of him wearing traditional Somali clothing is divisive, they should be ashamed. Hillary Clinton has worn the traditional clothing of countries she has visited and had those photos published widely.” She goes on to say Obama is trying to “distract from the serious issues.” Note that they never refuted Drudge’s piece…
In December, the [Clinton] campaign asked two of its employees to resign after they proliferated rumors that Obama was a Muslim.
Let me remind you again, as I did this morning, that Hillary herself once hedged when asked if Obama was a Muslim, saying there was no evidence of that “as far as I know.” And let me remind you of something else that doesn’t get much play these days but was a fact of political life during the 2008 Democratic primary: Both Obama fans and Hillary fans were convinced that the other side was playing filthy racial politics at various points in the campaign. Remember when Bill Clinton compared Obama’s primary win in South Carolina to Jesse Jackson’s wins there, which O’s supporters took as an attempt to pigeonhole him as a “black candidate”? Remember when Hillary said early on in the primaries that for all of MLK’s civil rights achievements, it took LBJ to actually turn them into law? Obama called that comment “ill advised,” supposedly because it diminished King but really because it cast him in the role of an inspirational black leader who should be operating outside politics. Remember later in the campaign when Hillary argued she’d be more electable as nominee because her support was stronger among “working, hard-working Americans, white Americans”? That comment earned her the opprobrium of Media Matters staffer Oliver Willis in a post titled “Hillary White Power Clinton.” And do you remember how all of these racial accusations annoyed the living s**t out of Hillary and her supporters, all the way up to Bill Clinton himself? Lots of liberals don’t remember. But a few, like Ryan Cooper, still do. Maybe Herself’s finger-wagging at Trump here will lead our media to take its own trip down memory lane.
When you’re done with the clip, dive into this immensely enjoyable article from Politico in which 20 big-name Democrats try and fail miserably to name one meaningful Hillary Clinton accomplishment. Barbara Boxer’s submission, no joke, is “galvanizing the Senate after the tragedy of 9/11 to rebuild the city,” as if that wouldn’t have happened without her. You want to know what Hillary’s real biggest accomplishment is? It’s not making an atrocious deal with Iran that’ll give them a nuclear weapon in 15 years like her successor did. If she was honest, that’s what she’d campaign on.

Trump Policy Paper Calls For Expanded Gun Rights, National Concealed Carry ^ | SEPTEMBER 18, 2015 | KATHERINE KRUEGER

The same day Donald Trump's campaign cancelled his appearance at the Heritage Action Presidential Forum, the candidate released a policy paper on his plan to expand gun rights Friday.
The paper, dubbed "Protecting Our Second Amendment Rights Will Make America Great Again," calls for an end to gun and magazine bans and nationwide concealed carry permits.
Trump's plan would also end the ban on carrying guns on military bases and recruiting centers, presumably a response to the July shootings at military sites in Chattanooga, Tenn. that left four Marines dead.
