Thug The New N-Word: Thug: And Another One Bites the Dust

Michelle Obama's Mirror ^ | 5-1-2015 | MOTUS

MAYOR STEPHANIE RAWLINGS-BLAKE: ...The thugs who only want to incite violence...
GOVERNOR LARRY HOGAN: ...Our city of Baltimore to be taken over by thugs...
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: ...And thugs who tore up the place
Butt I just heard that “thug” is the new n-word and we can’t use it any more; what goes on here?
John McWhorter, linguist and self-described “cranky liberal Democrat” will explain everything to NPR host Melissa Block:
john McWhorter
BLOCK: John, I've been looking at the Merriam-Webster definition of thug, and it describes it as a brutal ruffian or assassin. What's the origin of this word?
MCWHORTER: Well, the word originates in India as a word for roughly that.
Group_of_Thugs

Group of Indian Thuggees
And because the British ran India for a good long time, the word jumped the rails from Indian languages to English, and that's the reason that we in America have used the word for a very long time. And until rather recently, it did mean what you might call a ruffian, but of course, things have changed.
BLOCK: Well, how have they changed?
MCWHORTER: Well, the truth is that thug today is a nominally polite way of using the N-word. Many people suspect it, and they are correct. When somebody talks about thugs ruining a place, it is almost impossible today that they are referring to somebody with blonde hair. It is a sly way of saying there go those black people ruining things again. And so anybody who wonders whether thug is becoming the new N-word doesn't need to. It's most certainly is.
And there it is: Merriam-Webster is racist; as are Mayor Rawlings-Bates, Governor Hogan and President Obama. And the rest of us have been banned from calling anyone other than a blue-eyed blonde a thug ever again.
So how is it that a Black Mayor and a Black President can use the new n-word and we can’t? Racism.
The NPR explanation continues…
BLOCK: Although, if you think about it, I mean, in two of the pieces of tape that we played, we heard from an African-American mayor of Baltimore and an African-American president of the United States using that word.
MCWHORTER: Yep, and that is because just like the N-word, we have another one of these strangely bifurcated words. Thug in the black community, for about the past 25 to 30 years, has also meant ruffian, but there is a tinge of affection. A thug in black people's speech is somebody who is a ruffian but in being a ruffian is displaying a healthy sort of countercultural initiative, displaying a kind of resilience in the face of racism etc. Of course nobody puts it that way, but that's the feeling. And so when black people say it, they don't mean what white people mean, and that's why I think Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Barack Obama saying it means something different from the white housewife wherever who says it.
BLOCK: You're saying that African-American, in this case, politicians, who use the word thug should be given a pass because they understand it in a different way? I mean, the mayor certainly walked back her use of the word. She didn't want to be associated with it. She said, you know, I spoke out of frustration. They're really misguided young people.
MCWHORTER: No because I think that if an African-American woman uses the word thug today, we're not always conscious of all of these overtones in the words that we use. But I think that when she said that, she didn't mean it the same way as her white equivalent would. The word means two things, just like the N-word. And I think all of us are sophisticated enough to wrap our heads around that.
Um, no; I guess I’m not so·phis·ti·cat·ed enough because I’m really having a hard time wrapping my head around it. Maybe because I’m a racist, butt I still have a few questions.
Does that mean I can call Muslims thugs:
angry-muslims
Deer hunters thugs:
deer-thugs-tv
Neo-Nazis thugs:
skinhead
Mexican drug cartel members thugs:
more-fine-illegal-aliens1
Internet big mouths thugs:
gangsta nerds and thugs
Mafioso (i.e. white ethnic mafia types, who I understand black rappers idolized) thugs:
sopranos-thugs
Butt I can’t call black thugs thugs? Or does it mean I can’t call anybody under any circumstances a thug - because of my white privilege?
Tupac-Thug-Life-PhotosThat’s right, white-girl: only black thugs can use that word now, for everybody else it’s the “t-word” from here-on-in.
Today’s Public Service Announcement was brought to you by Tupac Shakur (aka 2Pac) who was tragically gunned down at age 25 in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas which, to the best of my knowledge, involved no police.

Our War...Vietnam

OUR WAR

I read through the New York Times this morning and since today is the 40th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon, they had several opinion pieces discussing the fallacy of America’s involvement in Vietnam, the terrible lessons of the misuse of American power, the atrocities “committed routinely” by us, etc.,etc..
May I throw the BS flag onto the field? We had an ally in trouble, we had the entire Communist Bloc supplying the Vietcong insurgents, we had the North Vietnamese Army in the south and whole world was watching to see what we’d do. If you peruse a map of the area, you’ll see that it was part of the world the Communists really wanted to control. The Straits of Malacca are close by and anyone controlling the ports in Vietnam would have the ability to choke off oil and other supplies to our other allies; Japan, South Korea, the Philippines. It wasn’t an insignificant area in geopolitics.
The young men who answered the call – or just served honorably when they were drafted – were some of the best young men we have ever fielded. We were well acquainted with the savagery of the enemy to the local villagers and it was emphasized to us over and over that the villagers were the focus of our war, the reason we were there. I distinctly remember what it was like to approach a new village that hadn’t dealt with Marines before. At first, nobody was visible and if we stopped there, eventually some kids would come out of hiding. We’d give them some of the hard tropical chocolate discs from our C-rations and maybe some other treats. Then the old people would come out and they’d see that we were playing with the kids and weren’t interested in killing their animals or taking anything from them.
The next time we’d go through that village, we’d be welcomed with smiles and sometimes even warned where the mines were. The Marine Corps even instituted a program called the Combined Action Program (CAP) where an incredibly brave squad of Marines and a Corpsman would actually live in those villages full time to train them to protect themselves.
I will always be proud of my time in Vietnam and of the men who served there with me. The war had vicious enemies to fight, nice people to protect and real reasons to be there. The New York Times writers can say what they want to, but if the United States hadn’t fought for South Vietnam for those eight long, hard years how would the world have looked at us? Sure, we lost but it was only after a long struggle that stalled and drained the Communist Bloc and in the end, there weren’t anymore “National Liberation Wars” and the Cold War came to an end soon after. We showed a steel in us that our adversaries didn’t think we had and in the end that was what the Communists saw in us when Reagan took office. Our sacrifices were not in vain. Our war was a good war, no matter what the New York Times wants to print.

May 1 Should be Declared Victims of Communism Day

Breitbart News ^ | May 1, 2015 | Ilya Somin

Today is May Day. Since 2007, I have defended the idea of using this date as an international Victims of Communism Day. I outlined the rationale for this proposal (which is not my original idea) in my very first post on the subject:
May Day began as a holiday for socialists and labor union activists, not just communists. But over time, the date was taken over by the Soviet Union and other communist regimes and used as a propaganda tool to prop up their regimes. I suggest that we instead use it as a day to commemorate those regimes’ millions of victims. The authoritative Black Book of Communism estimates the total at 80 to 100 million dead, greater than that caused by all other twentieth century tyrannies combined. We appropriately have a Holocaust Memorial Day. It is equally appropriate to commemorate the victims of the twentieth century’s other great totalitarian tyranny. And May Day is the most fitting day to do so….
The main alternative to May 1 is November 7, the anniversary of the communist coup in Russia. However, choosing that date might be interpreted as focusing exclusively on the Soviet Union, while ignoring the equally horrendous communist mass murders in China, Cambodia, and elsewhere. So May 1 is the best choice.

Dear Al Sharpton: You Lying, Race-baiting, Hobbling Bag of Human Feces…

LouderWithCrowder.com ^ | 05/01/15 | Steven Crowder

An open letter to Al Sharpton.

"Hey Al! Looks like you’ve finally made your way down to Baltimore. I don’t blame you. Gotta make them dollar, dollar bills! All those unpaid back-taxes really add up. So I want to make it clear that I don’t begrudge you one bit for trying to make a living. Heck, I don’t even mind your show at MSNBC. The mere blooper-reel has gotten more play in the Crowder household than anything else on Cablenews in the last decade. For that, I have to thank you. Matter of fact, I actually use your reel to defend our president! See, many people attack President Obama, under the guise of him being useless to anyone without his teleprompter. I say that’s unfair, when there are people like you out there who are of no use with a teleprompter. With that out of the way, can I make one request? Just one..."

Obama and mayors planning not only to reform but to totally replace America’s police forces

Canada Free Press ^ | 05/01/15 | Judi Mcleod

Mayors and city councils—in office largely courtesy of public apathy—are President Barack Obama’s boots on the ground in the ongoing, carefully orchestrated racial riots coming soon to a city near you.
In their bid to rescue America from total Marxist eclipse, patriots, as it turns out, have been knocking on the wrong door.
Republicans, who surrendered to the Democrats even after taking over House and Senate in last Midterm elections, have no dog in the racial riots in Ferguson, Baltimore and other cities, but Mayor Stephanie Rowlings-Blake, who ordered a police stand down in Baltimore, and a bevy of other Democrat mayors, do.

How the Clinton Scandal can bring down the Democrats

The Fiscal Times ^ | Rob Garver

In the nearly two-year smorgasbord of scandal (real and faux) that the Hillary Rodham Clinton presidential campaign promises to deliver, last month’s brouhaha over her email was but an appetizer.
Not two weeks after she officially announced her run for president, Clinton has been informed that she will be hauled not once, but twice, before the House committee re-investigating the attacks on the U.S. compound in Benghazi in 2012.
The book, Clinton Cash, by conservative author Peter Schweizer, makes a circumstantial case for possible wrongdoing by Clinton, tying the timing of speaking fees paid to her husband and donations to the foundation to actions taken by the State Dept. that benefited the donors.
While Schweizer has no proof of any quid pro quos, the attention generated by the not-yet-published book has forced the Clinton Foundation into a defensive posture, and in the early going, things aren’t working out very well.
“In 2013, for example, only 10 percent of the Clinton Foundation’s expenditures were for direct charitable grants,” Davis writes. “The amount it spent on charitable grants–$8.8 million–was dwarfed by the $17.2 million it cumulatively spent on travel, rent, and office supplies. Between 2011 and 2013, the organization spent only 9.9 percent of the $252 million it collected on direct charitable grants.”
If these circumstantial allegations stick to Clinton, it can affect not only the presidential race, but also tilt the balance in the House and Senate.

Clinton Non-Profit Admits Organization Is Just A ‘Pass-Through’

The Federalist ^ | 4/30/15 | Sean Davis

Another day, another Clinton scandal. The Boston Globe reported this morning that yet another Clinton tax-exempt organization, the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), failed to disclose foreign donations it received while Hillary Clinton served as Secretary of State.
“The Clinton Health Access Initiative never submitted information on any foreign donations to State Department lawyers for review during Clinton’s tenure from 2009 to 2013,” the Boston Globe wrote. “[CHAI CEO Maura Daley] said the charity deemed it unnecessary, except in one case that she described as an ‘oversight.'”

More interesting, however, is CHAI’s stated rationale for refusing to disclose the donations: since it was only passing the money on to other groups and not using it in-house, it didn’t feel compelled to disclose the payments.

That rationale flies in the face of other explanations provided by the Clinton Foundation about why its charitable grants to other projects and organizations comprise such a small percentage of its budget. Clinton allies have claimed that the charitable grant numbers are low only because the Clinton non-profit universe does the bulk of its charitable work “in-house.”

“The charity defended the lack of some disclosures on the grounds that the donations in question were simply passed through the charity to fund an existing project,” according to the Boston Globe.

The new explanation for the non-profit’s refusal to disclose the sources of its foreign cash flies in the face of previous defenses of the Clinton Foundation’s spending habits. Instead of directly funding charitable efforts, huge swathes of Clinton Foundation cash were instead used to pay rent, buy office supplies, fund private jet travel, and host what the New York Times described as “glitzy annual gathering[s] of chief executives, heads of state, and celebrities.”

Based on an extensive analysis of the Clinton Foundation’s tax filings, The Federalist found that the organization spent less than 10 percent of its budget on charitable grants in 2013. From 2009 through 2012, it spent less than 15 percent of its budget on charitable grants to other organizations.

In 2013, for example, a majority of the Clinton Foundation’s budget was spent on staff salaries, travel, office supplies, and rent.

The Clinton Foundation announced last week that it would be refiling several years’ worth of tax returns because it improperly failed to disclose to the IRS foreign contributions it received while Hillary Clinton served as Secretary of State.

Jeb Bush Doubles Down On Open Borders To National Review

Breitbart ^ | 4/30/15 | Dan Riehl

If National Review editor Rich Lowry was looking for compromise on immigration from Republican Jeb Bush, he’s still looking. According to NR, Bush “and Lowry tussled over immigration policy and tax pledges.”
Jeb wasn’t even willing to take the seemingly easy out of opting to secure the border first. One is left to wonder what the unemployed, “younger, more dynamic people” of Baltimore and other areas might think of Jeb’s reasoning.
