Last Foreign Policy Chance

The Daily Beast ^ | Jan 14, 2015 | Leslie H. Gelb

The failure of Obama or Biden to show up in Paris made clear that most of the president’s team can’t be trusted to conduct U.S national security policy and must be replaced—at once.

Here’s why America’s failure to be represented at the Paris unity march was so profoundly disturbing. It wasn’t just because President Obama’s or Vice President Biden’s absence was a horrendous gaffe. More than this, it demonstrated beyond argument that the Obama team lacks the basic instincts and judgment necessary to conduct U.S. national security policy in the next two years. It’s simply too dangerous to let Mr. Obama continue as is—with his current team and his way of making decisions. America, its allies, and friends could be heading into one of the most dangerous periods since the height of the Cold War

The Obama administration is historic. ^ | January 15, 2015 | Derek Hunter

The Obama administration is historic. That’s something we hear constantly from media elites, from congressional Democrats and, frankly from the White House itself. And they’re right. This administration has overseen a historically slow economic recovery; it has overseen the ceding of more ground to terrorists than ever before; it rung up more debt than every previous administration combined, and so on. It is historic.
Another way in which the Obama administration is historic is in its employ of Islamic theologians in positions where such expertise isn’t required. White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest has spent the last week explaining to the American people how terrorists who, in their own words, acted in the name of Islam, yelled “Allahu Akbar” while murdering people, did not act in the name of genuine Islam. Marie Harf, State Department Press Secretary, did the same thing. Obviously Earnest and Harf are learned Islamic scholars who happen to have forsaken their training to become mouthpieces for government agencies. Kudos to them.
Of course this is absurd. Earnest and Harf are reciting talking points issued to them by people who know full well repeating a lie often enough, and from a position of authority, tends to instill that lie in the minds of those who hear it. They also know that no amount of repeating a lie can make it true – repetition of a lie is a commitment to it, not dogma.
The Obama administration will not admit there is a radical, dangerous strain of Islam that is significant in size and growing. After the Paris attacks, the White House announced they’d be hosting a summit on “violent extremism” on February 18. They made this announcement as if it was proof the White House was taking the threat seriously. But the summit was originally scheduled for October, but has been postponed since.
Its new date was announced because the White House had no choice – their failure to respond seriously and show any leadership in the wake of the slaughter in Paris tied their hands. It’s like continually telling your girlfriend you’ll go on a “couples night” with her friends, but always having an excuse why you can’t. Then, once she decides to invite her “male friend” from work, you suddenly become available and insist you really want to go. Your bluff, like the bluff of the White House on their “extremism” summit, was called.
But the summit won’t be about radical Islam, it will be about all forms of extremism. So those of you plagued by extreme Jehovah’s Witnesses and overly aggressive Walmart greeters can rest easy, the White House has heard your pleas.
It’s absurd, but it’s also currently the official policy of the United States.
This Obama denialism was crystallized in his failure not only to attend Sunday’s anti-terrorism march in Paris, but to even acknowledge it existed until forced to.
When asked about the President’s absence, Earnest did what someone who is lying does – listed a lot of possible excuses. When you convey the truth, no matter how ashamed of it you may be, you simply convey it. You don’t offer a laundry list of reasons as to why you didn’t do something.
If there were security issues, why wasn’t the Secret Service asked if it was doable? In addition to being an Islamic theologian, is Josh Earnest a security expert?
Another excuse offered was that there was “no official invite” and that the President was unaware of the event because unknown low-level staff didn’t tell him. This is as believable as saying French President Francois Hollande sent out an Evite that got caught in Obama’s spam filter. This was a gathering of the leaders of the most important and powerful nations in the world, to pretend Barack Obama was simply “out of the loop” is insulting.
Barack Obama did not want to attend because to attend would be to stand against something he doesn’t want to admit exists. ISIS is the jayvee team, Al Qaeda is on the run, after all, and General Motors is alive while Osama bin Laden is dead, at least according to the talking points. Upsetting that narrative would contradict what he’s been saying for years and might slow his terrorist evictions from Gitmo, something on which he places more importance than the Constitutional separation of powers.
The movie The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance contains the line, “When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.” In the Obama White House, the legend is treated as fact, but those facts are falling apart.
There is a small window open right now, like it was after September 11, to unite the civilized world against the monsters and coordinate a counter-offensive that can make a difference in the war on terrorism. Rather than use that window, President Obama has chosen to stick with the legend.

A rising Islamic world: We are coming for you!

La Salette Journey ^ | January 15, 2015

"An awakening and rising Islamic world — a more militant faith than Christianity or secularism — is saying to the West: We want you out of our part of the world, and we are coming to your part of the world, and you cannot stop us." - Pat Buchanan. See here.
There are still some, including sadly many within the Church such as Bishop Robert McManus, who believe that the Church and the West can "dialogue" with Islam, which is a manifestation of Antichrist.
Apparently the message of 9/11 was lost on such people. The date of this heinous and cowardly act of terrorism was not an accident of history. It was chosen to send a message to the [largely] Christian West: "We are coming for you."
September 11th is the date on which the Battle of Vienna took place in 1683.

Obama calls for government-run broadband service (more socialism)!

American Thinker ^ | 01/15/2015 | Rick Moran

President Obama has called on cities and towns to create their own broadband service for their residents to compete with large corporations.

Obama was in Cedar Rapids, Iowa touting the plan to get states to relax their rules against municipalities setting up their own networks. Cedar Rapids got an exemption from the FCC to create their own networks a few years ago.

Republicans in Congress reacted immediately.

The Hill:

"In Tennessee we have a term to describe people like President Obama — tone-deaf,” Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) said in a statement.

“At a time when Americans think the biggest problem facing our nation today is big government, you would think he'd have gotten the message by now,” she added. “We don't need unelected bureaucrats like FCC [Federal Communications Commission] Chairman Tom Wheeler dictating to our states what they can and can't do with respect to protecting their limited taxpayer dollars and private enterprises.”

In 19 states, there are laws on the books limiting local governments from building out their own municipal Internet services.

The FCC has been asked by two cities — in North Carolina and in Tennessee — to override those laws. Obama on Wednesday urged the FCC to do just that.

“I’m on the side of competition,” Obama said during his speech at a Cedar Falls utility plant.

Supporters of the move say that it would help create more competition for broadband service, and many Democrats cheered Obama’s call. According to the FCC, more than half the country has just one option for high-speed broadband Internet service with download speeds of 25 Mbps or higher.

Critics, however, say that it would amount to Washington intervention in local laws.

Months of Airstrikes Fail to Slow Islamic State in Syria [Another US Loss Under Obama!]

Wall St. J ^ | January 14, 2015 | DION NISSENBAUM

Months of Airstrikes Fail to Slow Islamic State in Syria Militant Group Has Gained Territory Despite U.S.-Led Strikes, Raising Concerns of the Obama Administration’s Mideast Strategy. By DION NISSENBAUM WASHINGTON—More than three months of U.S. airstrikes in Syria have failed to prevent Islamic State militants from expanding their control in that country, according to U.S. and independent assessments, raising new concerns about President Barack Obama’s military strategy in the Middle East.
While U.S. bombing runs and missile strikes have put Islamic State forces on the

Romney vs Bush may just open the door to Scott Walker

The American Thinker ^ | January 15, 2015 | Silvio Canto, Jr.

Put me down as someone who would really enjoy a contest between Jeb Bush and Mitt Romney. They are both serious and qualified men. I've always loved Romney's mixture of private and public sector experience. Jeb Bush ran a big state that looks a lot like the U.S. They are good patriotic men who have thought hard about the issues confronting the country.
However, they have problems:
1) Romney lost in 2012. Fair or unfair, many people think that he ran a poor campaign. He seemed poised for victory after the first debate and then fell back. Also, a lot of the base was never excited about him. The lack of enthusiasm hurt him specially against the Obama "get out the vote" drive.
2) Bush is Bush, and I don't mean any disrespect to Bush-41 or Bush-43. I'm not sure that the country wants a Bush-45. Maybe that's a little too much Bush, although running against Hillary Clinton would kill that "dynasty" criticism.
Therefore, I think that a Romney vs Bush contest could end up helping a fresh new face named Scott Walker, the very talented and able governor of Wisconsin.
As Caitlin Hailey Burns points out, Walker has a lot going for him:
"While Bush, Romney and Christie compete for the establishment lane, and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and others seek out the conservative base, Walker is fashioning himself as something of a hybrid, capable of winning the hearts of the base and the minds of the center-right.
Walker’s take-no-prisoners approach with unions over collective bargaining rights catapulted him onto the national stage.....

Idiotic plan: New York’s de Blasio offers ID cards to illegals to make them feel more like citizens! ^

Imagine if you lived in America’s largest city where the mayor has disrespected its police force, discontinued the surveillance of mosques and watched two of his police officers get attacked by an Islamic jihadist with an ax. Now, realizing that you live in the biggest Islamic terrorist target in the world, after seeing what happened last week in Paris, what do you think your mayor should do to protect you and your fellow citizens?
Well, if your mayor is an admitted socialist like New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, you’d throw the doors wide open to as many illegal aliens as possible As reports, de Blasio said on Monday he wants to give “identification cards to illegal aliens allows them to feel like citizens and enjoy some of the same benefits as actual citizens.”
“We don’t want any of our fellow New Yorkers to feel like second-class citizens,” de Blasio was quoted as saying in a National Public Radio website article. “We don’t want them to feel left out.”

Conservative Leaders Draft Mandate For GOP: Stop Obama’s Fundamental Transformation Of America! ^ | 1/15/15 | Matthew Boyle

Conservative movement leaders are unveiling the mandate they say Republicans have heading into this new Congress, after voters gave them a majority in both the House and Senate for the first time during President Obama’s tenure.
The document, obtained exclusively by Breitbart News, details how the conservative leaders expect Republicans in Congress to “stop” Obama’s “fundamental transformation of America,” something they say the American people made clear in the 2014 midterm elections with such resounding GOP victories.
“The November 2014 election was a repudiation of the complicity of the United States Congress in President Obama’s dramatic and unconstitutional expansion of government,” the document’s introduction reads, before listing several major expectations the American people have of Republicans as this new Congress begins.
Signers of the mandate document include columnist and former federal prosecutor Andrew C. McCarthy, New York Times No. 1 bestselling author Brad Thor, former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, ConservativeHQ’s Richard Viguerie, Eagle Forum’s Phyllis Schlafly, Family Research Council executive vice president and retired Army Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin, Secure America Now president Allen Roth, nationally syndicated radio host of American Family Radio Sandy Rios, Election Law Center’s J. Christian Adams, Center for Security Policy’s Frank Gaffney, Americans for Limited Government’s Rick Manning, author and speaker Tim Daughtry, American Family Association president Tim Wildmon, ForAmerica president David Bozell, and American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp, along with scores of other signers.
