The Hollow Men ^ | September 10, 2014 | Paul Greenberg

This is the way the world ends

This is the way the world ends

This is the way the world ends

Not with a bang but a whimper.

--T. S. Eliot, "The Hollow Men"

Once again our secretary of state is busy observing American foreign policy rather than shaping it. John Kerry was speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for a new museum of American diplomacy, where examples of America's leadership in world affairs will doubtless be on display along with other relics of the past.

Secretary Kerry took advantage of the occasion to warn against creeping isolationism. Creeping? It's galloping by now. For it's been hurtling on ever since January 20, 2009, when a new president sounded a new call for American foreign policy: Retreat!

This administration had barely begun before the Hon. Barack Obama shelved plans for an anti-missile shield planned for Poland and the Czech Republic. Then he was off to Cairo to unveil a whole different policy ("A New Beginning") for the Middle East and the Muslim world in general: Apologize profusely and withdraw from everywhere as soon as possible.

We can all see how well that approach has worked out -- from Syria and the Levant and across North Africa as Islamist terror has spread like a fast-growing bloodstain. Or as Sarah Palin, once derided as some kind of nut, might put it, and did: "How's that hopey-changey thing working out for ya?"

Even as all the chickens (or rather vultures) he has unleashed were coming home to roost, Barack Obama was sounding as blase as ever, careless and callous as his emblematic "military" salute. What, him worry?

Or as the president told a fundraising dinner for Democratic candidates just the other day, "The world has always been messy." Ho hum. Ukraine, Iran, Syria, what's left of Iraq and the rest of the Middle East. ... Forget it, or maybe give it a lick and a promise if we really have to, and maybe it'll all go away.

There are no easy answers in diplomacy, no matter how simple it once looked to our current president, who seemed to believe all he had to do was declare our good intentions, extend the hand of friendship to the old mullahs and new tsars all around the world, and all would be well in his fairy-tale version of international affairs.

Has he learned any better since? Maybe not. Illusions, like ideology, are hard to shake. But that rumble you hear is the world trembling under his feet after he's neglected it for so long. Is it too much to hope he'll wake up at last? The country already has. If only it could get the word to the White House.

Kids From Ferguson Recruited to ‘Educate White America’ on Racism in ‘Hey White People’ Video!

The Blaze ^ | 9/9/14, a “for-profit T-shirt company with an activist heart” released a new video Tuesday that uses kids from Ferguson, Missouri, to “educate white America about the racist reality in 2014.”
The company recruited six young black kids from Ferguson, reportedly from the same block where 18-year-old Michael Brown was fatally shot by a police officer.
“Armed ONLY with statistics (hands up, don’t shoot) these articulate and adorable kids are not having it while much of white America would rather pretend racism is over,” the video’s description reads.
The video starts with the kids noting that Ferguson is the place “where white police shot an unarmed black teen in the face.” One of the kids is heard labeling the shooting a “national disgrace.”
The kids go on to mock various statements that some white people allegedly say about black people and racism, according to the video’s creators. These include:
• “All this focus on race makes me uncomfortable.” • “It’s you people who are making this about race.” • “I don’t see color.” • “You people are just playing the race card.” • “Some of my best friends are black.”
Later in the video, a white man makes an appearance and proclaims that it’s white people’s responsibility to “own up and face” racism.
Finally, the company pitches its $13 “Racism is not over but I’m over racism” T-shirts. The for-profit company vows to donate $5 of the proceeds to charities working to fight racism.”

VA Employees Arrested For Running Coke Ring Out Of VA Medical Center!

Daily Caller ^ | 9/10/14 | Tristyn Bloom

Two Veterans Affairs Medical Center employees were arrested last week for using VA facilities to smuggle and deal cocaine, the Department of Justice recently announced. Robert Tucker and Erik Casiano had been using the U.S. Postal Service and the mailroom of a VA Medical Center in the Bronx to receive and distribute cocaine since “at least November 2013,” according to the press release. Tucker has worked for the VA since 1997, and in 2012 was promoted to supervisor of the Logistics Warehouse and Mail Center. Casiano, a pipefitter in the plumbing department, had worked for the center since 2012. All told, the

OBAMA DOES HAVE A STRATEGY: BURY THE BAD NEWS That's been his vision all along.
By Thomas Sowell

Those people who say that President Obama has no clear vision and no clear strategy for dealing with the ISIS terrorists in the Middle East may be mistaken. It seems to me that he has a very clear and very consistent strategy. And a vision behind that strategy.
First the strategy — which is to get each crisis off the front pages and off television news programs as quickly as he can, in whatever way he can, at the lowest political cost. Calling ISIS a junior varsity months ago accomplished that goal.
Saying before the 2012 elections that “bin Laden is dead” and that terrorism was defeated accomplished the goal of getting reelected.
Ineffective sanctions against Iran and Russia likewise serve a clear purpose. They serve to give the illusion that Obama is doing something that will stop Iran from getting nuclear bombs and stop Russia from invading Ukraine.
This forestalls the massive and enraged outcries there would be if the public were fully aware that he was doing nothing serious enough to prevent either of these things from happening. Generations of Americans yet unborn may curse us all for leaving them hostage to a nuclear terrorist Iran. But generations yet unborn do not vote, so they carry no weight with Barack Obama.
