Obama "Inflates" the Crowds at His Campaign Events!

Michelle Obama's Mirror ^ | 7-22-2012 | MOTUS

I knew the lack of business experience in Big Guy’s administration would eventually get us in trouble. So here it is: we’re running a deficit. No – not THE deficit:
No, we’re talking about Big Guy’s personal campaign deficit.

...So although our 2012 WTF: FORWARD kickoff we got off to a rocky start at Ohio State by spending $93 thousand dollars to rent a stadium that held twice as many people as showed up, the Big Brains have a plan. The Old-School way of “If you rent it, they will come” doesn’t work, so they’ve developed a New-School way. It’s a much more cost effective and reliable way to fill our seats. Instead of relying on fickle Democrats humans, we’re going with the all new, virtual composite crowd butts (VCCB). That’s right! It’s the Amazing Inflatable Crowd! Used in over 80 movies and TV shows, they are now making their realistic inflatables available to Big Guy to WTF. As explained ...

U.S. Poverty Rate on Track to Reach Levels not seen since the 1960's

BI ^ | 7/22/2012 | Staff

WASHINGTON (AP) — The ranks of America's poor are on track to climb to levels unseen in nearly half a century, erasing gains from the war on poverty in the 1960s amid a weak economy and fraying government safety net.

Census figures for 2011 will be released this fall in the critical weeks ahead of the November elections.

‘Bain’ there, too: Obama supporters also led bad private-equity deals ^ | July 22, 2012 | JOSH KOSMAN

Private equity has been the focal point of this year’s presidential campaign.

Democrats and the White House have used Republican Mitt Romney’s past private-equity deals to paint the image that Bain Capital helped destroy companies and put Americans out of work.

Still, President Obama is closely aligning himself with supporters who have PE deals in their own closets with less than stellar results for Americans while the investors profited handsomely.
Obama National Campaign Co-Chair Federico Pena led a buyout of a rural telephone company that looks very much like the criticized Romney deals, but has received little attention. Obama last year called former Denver Mayor Pena “one of the finest public servants in Colorado history.”
Pena joined private-equity firm Vestar Capital Partners in 1998, where he is now a senior adviser, after serving as Energy and Transportation secretaries in the Clinton administration.
One of the first deals Pena led for Vestar was supposed to benefit consumers.

ObamaCare’s Monster and the Rationing Future

First Things/Secondhand Smoke ^ | 7/21/12 | Wesley J. Smith

Obamacare’s Independent Payment Advisory Board is authoritarian. It does not “advise,” it imposes on cost cutting for Medicare–even over a presidential veto. Moreover, it’s imposed “advice” is also immune from judicial review. Frankly, I think it is blatantly unconstitutional because it tells Congress what to do instead of the other way around. But with the courts we have these days, nothing is certain.
As currently existing, the IPAB cannot ration care. But that is precisely the destination toward which the monster is lurching. It isn’t even up and running yet, and already President Obama and the New England Journal of Medicine have called for expanding its powers–and in the NEJM’s case, urged that it be allowed to impose rationing. And now a big voice in Obamacare circles, Christina Romer has dittoed the call in the NYT. From, “Only the First Step in Containing Health Care Costs:”
Once the payment advisory board has a track record, for example, perhaps it could be empowered to suggest changes in benefits or in how Medicare services are provided — say, along the lines of successful demonstration projects.
Suggest? IPAB doesn’t suggest: It dictates and its fiats are all but removed from democratic checks and balances.
If we want to remain free, IPAB must die, or at least be defanged into a truly advisory panel without the power to tell Congress what to do. Otherwise it will reproduce and we will have IPAB-like authoritarian boards scattered throughout the depth and breadth of government, unaccountable to “we the people,” who at least theoretically, are supposed to be in charge of the country.

How Romney could become a great president

 Peter O'Donnell

This year, America needs to elect a great president, and that will require voting against the incumbent.
Mitt Romney has failed to excite conservatives, by and large, and is suspected of being too centrist, even too liberal, to bring the necessary resolve to the office that might place America back on the right path.

However, alternatives seem few and far between as there is almost no chance of anyone else being nominated for the GOP or elected as a third party candidate. So it's basically a choice between Mitt Romney stepping up to the plate, or waiting for that great president to come along in 2016 -- and that begs the question, does America have four years to sacrifice? Perhaps, things always look worse than they turn out to be, but this may be the one time where things are as bad, if not worse, than they appear.
Here's what I believe Mitt Romney must do to become a great president. I must admit that when asked to choose four topics in posting this article, I was tempted by humour, weird stuff, and miscellaneous. I'm not saying that I think Romney can improve his game this much. But at least we should discuss what he needs to do to attract the support of conservatives.
First, he needs to select the most suitable running mate. I would like to see him select Sarah Palin or possibly Newt Gingrich. America needs to have confidence that there's a substantial person at the side of this potential president, and not just substantial, but with conservative credentials. But some of the choices mentioned widely in the press would not harm the rest of this agenda, because it's mainly in Romney's hands anyway.
Here are four conservative principles that I think Romney should pledge to uphold if elected.
(1) Take all possible steps to balance the budget and to reduce the debt and deficit. As part of that, refrain from further misadventures under the heading of "green economy" and adopt sensible, realistic climate policies (meaning, accept natural variability and move on, no more expensive solar or wind boondoggles, an emphasis on clean air rather than reduced carbon dioxide).
(2) Pledge to stay out of foreign entanglements of all kinds except those which vitally affect the security of the United States. No more U.N. sponsored adventures, no costly ambiguous foreign wars, just intervention to save vital interests of this country.
(3) Preserve the principle of conventional marriage, and uphold the spirit of the First and Second Amendments.
(4) Keep taxes low and stimulate small business while doing nothing to harm the economy.
If Romney pledges to maintain these four key conservative "core values" then he would be on the road to being the great president that these times require. He must also pledge to keep the Mormon faith question a private matter and maintain the separation of church and state.
I believe he should do all this, not to enhance his voter appeal or run up larger vote totals, but to save America from becoming a failed state. The question of border security plays into this as well, and it should be expected that there would be a reversal of trends towards increased illegal immigration. What you do with the ones already here is probably open to different solutions, but these should be in the national interest.
If Romney fails to endorse a strong conservative foundation, then I don't see how he is going to be enough of an improvement over Obama to merit any special consideration from American conservative voters, who would be quite within their rights to park their vote with a more principled candidate. It's up to Romney, does he want to do the minimum (and probably lose like McCain did) or does he want to do the maximum (and probably win like Reagan did against Carter?).
To me, the choice is a no-brainer -- conservative principles can save America from the inevitable crisis that would follow any further liberal misadventures.

On PBS, Bill Moyers Trashes America and the NRA As 'Venomous...Enablers of Death'! ^ | July 22, 2012 | Tim Graham

With the first heart-breaking headlines out of Colorado, gun-rights advocates just had to know that leftist lecturers in our media would mount their soap boxes and trash this country for its gun culture and trash the National Rifle Association as an "enabler of death -- paranoid, delusional, and as venomous as a scorpion."
But it's additionally sad that the soap box in this case is paid for by taxpayers -- in the form of taxpayer support for every PBS station that spews out this leftist loathing. On his show Moyers & Company, 78-year-old PBS omnipresence Bill Moyers reached back to America's inhumane and vicious Westward expansion, when so many blood-thirsty Americans were killed because of their ineptitude with firearms:

MOYERS: We are after all a country which began with the forced subjugation into slavery of millions of Africans and the reliance on arms against Native Americans for its Westward expansion. In truth, more settlers traveling the Oregon Trail died from accidental, self-inflicted gunshots wounds than Indian attacks - we were not only bloodthirsty but also inept.

Nonetheless, we have become so gun loving, so blasé about home-grown violence that in my lifetime alone, far more Americans have been casualties of domestic gunfire than have died in all our wars combined. In Arizona last year, just days after the Gabby Giffords shooting, sales of the weapon used in the slaughter - a 9 millimeter Glock semi-automatic pistol - doubled.

We are fooling ourselves. That the law could allow even an inflamed lunatic to easily acquire murderous weapons and not expect murderous consequences. Fooling ourselves that the Second Amendment’s guarantee of a "well-regulated militia" be construed as a God-given right to purchase and own just about any weapon of destruction you like. That's a license for murder and mayhem and it's a great fraud that has entered our history.

There's a video of which I'd like to remind you. You can see it on YouTube. In it, Adam Gadahn, an American born member of al Qaeda, the first U.S. citizen charged with treason since 1952, urges terrorists to carry out attacks on the United States. Right before your eyes he says: "America is absolutely awash with easily obtainable firearms. You can go down to a gun show at the local convention center and come away with a fully automatic assault rifle, without a background check, and most likely, without having to show an identification card. So what are you waiting for?"

The killer in Colorado waited only for an opportunity, and there you have it - the arsenal of democracy transformed into the arsenal of death and the NRA -- the NRA is the enabler of death -- paranoid, delusional, and as venomous as a scorpion. With the weak-kneed acquiescence of our politicians, the National Rifle Association has turned the Second Amendment of the Constitution into a cruel hoax, a cruel and deadly hoax.
Anyone who thinks PBS is not a left-wing propaganda system supported involuntarily (in part) by conservative Americans has never flipped the remote control past the "public" broadcasting channels. The funders of PBS are enablers of vicious anti-conservative rhetoric, even at times of great national sorrow.

Questions To Ask Democrats As They Abandon Barack ^ | July 22, 2012 | Austin Hill

Democrats are abandoning Barack Obama’s ship, like RATS!

Last week Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi instructed Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives to not attend this September’s Democratic National Convention. Instead, Ms. Pelosi insisted, their time would be better spent campaigning at home, rather than partying in Charlotte, N.C.

Ms. Pelosi’s announcement falls in line with the AFL-CIO, which announced the previous week that it won’t be spending money to bankroll the convention. And Pelosi and her Big Labor friends are in lockstep with Democrat U.S. Senators Jon Tester of Montana, Claire McCaskill of Missouri, and Joe Manchin of West Virginia – all of whom have chosen to avoid Barack Obama’s nomination for a second term.

After three and a half years of Barack Obama radicalizing their party, it now appears that some very powerful Democrats have had a startling realization: the Obama agenda is both dysfunctional and destructive, and has become politically lethal – Americans see that it bares little resemblance to America’s time-honored history and heritage, and they have begun to reject it outright.
Democrat candidates at all levels of government will go about campaigning over these next few months, making promises based upon their party platform without mentioning President Obama’s name. But as they talk about the following agenda items – all of which appear in the “issues” section of Democrats.Org, the national party’s web home – consider asking the candidates the accompanying questions below.
Let’s start with the issue of “energy independence.” Democrats tell us that “President Obama knows we can’t just drill our way to lower gas prices,” and that their party is focused on “developing all of America’s natural resources...” The President himself has said that he is committed to an “all of the above” approach to energy policy, implying that he’s okay with petroleum-based energy, along with the alternative energy development that he’s promoted.
This sounds great- but consider asking Democrats this question: “If President Obama is committed to an ‘all of the above’ strategy, why did he reject the Keystone XL pipeline project that would have produced employment opportunities from the Canadian border all the way to Texas?” In reality, an “all of the above” approach to energy policy means “anything except Big Oil” within the Obama worldview – but Democrats would prefer to ignore this.
Your Democrat candidate may prefer, instead, to tell you about their party’s agenda for “green energy.” On this point, you may wish to ask “how do you feel about CBS News reporting that the Obama Administration has lost $6.5 billion of our money already on what they described as ‘risky green energy ventures?’ Did CBS lie to us?”
You may also hear from your Democrat candidate that the party is fighting for “civil rights” on behalf of LGBT couples –which is to say that they’re working for legal sanctioning of same-sex marriage. Mention to them that Democrats in the California legislature are now working on a bill to expand parental rights to more than two parents per child. Under the California plan, any individual child could have three or perhaps more, legally identified mommies and daddies. Then ask the Democrat, “Why would you limit the structuring of marriages and families to only two adults? Given how President Obama’s position on this issue has evolved, and given the highly evolved position among California Democrats, aren’t you being a bit exclusionary and narrow-minded, trying to limit a marriage or a family to only two adults?”
Concerns about the economy are top of mind for us all, which puts Democrats in an awkward situation. Still, your Democrat candidate will likely remind you that President Obama inherited a bad economy and is now working to “creating jobs.” To this you may wish to simply ask “how is a job created?” Then listen carefully to the response. It will likely be highly amusing.
There are so many other questions to ask of your local Democrat candidate, regardless of the issues the candidate raises. “Why does the so-called ‘healthcare reform law’ expand the force and power of the I.R.S.?” “Why are illegal aliens exempt from the Obamacare tax?” “Is it purely coincidental that the executives of the ‘green energy’ companies that were recipients of President Obama’s grants and loans were also donors to his previous presidential campaign?” “Why has President Obama abandoned the work requirements imposed on welfare recipients by President Bill Clinton?” “Why is 80% of the Department of Agriculture’s budget spent on food stamps, while less than 20% of it is devoted to the farming industry?” “Why is the Obama Administration ‘collaborating’ with the government of Mexico to give American food stamps to illegal aliens?” Your local Democrat will probably not want to hear these questions, and may have to admit that they disagree with parts of the President’s agenda.
You might even hear your local Democrat say that they’re abandoning the President’s agenda for America altogether – just like so many of them have abandoned the President’s convention in September.

Much-Deserved Abuse for the Crooks and Scoundrels in Washington ^ | July 22, 2012 | Daniel J. Mitchell

Every couple of weeks, I share the best politically oriented one-liners from the late-night comics.

While I enjoy the laughs as much as anybody, there’s a serious point to be made. Politicians deserve mockery.

They are not our “leaders.” They are compulsive narcissists who are trying to compensate for losing student council elections in the 6th grade.

And when they achieve their dreams of wielding power over the rest of us, they routinely engage in corrupt behavior just so they can try to buy our votes in the next election. Using other people’s money, of course.
And because they put themselves about the country 99 percent of the time, they’ve burdened us with reckless and unsustainable entitlement programs that have us on a trajectory for Greek-style fiscal chaos.
So enjoy, but also have scorn.

Barack Obama: Crony Capitalist in Chief? Part 2 ^ | July 22, 2012 | Political Calculations

In mid-2008, General Motors was a failing company. Unable to unload their product line of gas guzzlers, the wrong cars and trucks to be trying to sell at a time of record high gasoline prices, the company's high union-driven high labor costs were combined with the extremely high pension and health care costs it had awarded its unions in better times, the company was quickly heading for bankruptcy and quite possibly for liquidation.

In that environment, GM decided to bet big on a new mass market production car, one that could deliver 50 miles per gallon - more than double the mileage of the average vehicles of its product line - and it would bring it to market in 2010, making a technological leap in the process: the Chevrolet Volt.

From Failure to Federal Entity

And then, General Motors, as it was, failed. In December 2008, the company's management and its unions sought and received a special bridge financing from the federal government which would provide a cushion of time during which the company would attempt to restructure itself before becoming insolvent.
Chevrolet Volt Recharging - Source: General Services Administration
In January 2009, Barack Obama was sworn into office and changed the direction of the company's restructuring efforts, forcing out the company's CEO as he increased the federal government's role in managing the company as it prepared to enter bankruptcy. Ultimately, the U.S. government would become the largest stakeholder in the company that acquired GM's name, trademarks and assets in the company's bankruptcy. For all practical purposes, GM became an entity of the U.S. federal government.
In the restructuring that followed, GM closed plants, dealerships and shut down entire product lines as it laid off many of its employees. Yet the Chevy Volt, with its "green" imprimatur that augmented President Obama's willingness to spend billions of dollars to back various risky "clean energy" technology initiatives as part of his 2009 economic stimulus bill, was given the green light to go forward into production, even though it was clear that it would face a difficult path to market success in a recessionary economy.
After the Chevy Volt was introduced, it was declared to be 2011's Car of the Year, in both the United States and in Europe.
Declared by many in the press to be a innovation revelation, a "pioneering" automotive engineering and computer programming achievement. An primary electric battery-powered automobile that can travel solely on electricity for up to 50 miles before switching to a backup gasoline-powered motor, meaning it burns very little gasoline and emits very little pollution into the environment. A car whose electric battery can be recharged overnight by plugging it into a regular wall socket or very quickly using a special recharging station.
Comparison of Volt and Its Competition, 19 July 2012 (Screen shot) - Source: Chevrolet
And yet, hardly anybody seems to want to buy it, even though its $39,995 sticker price can be offset with a special $7,500 federal tax credit, which would lower the basic price of the four door sedan for consumers to $32,495, making it very competitive with other vehicles in its class.
Political Calculations: Chevy Volt Sales, December 2010 Through June 2012
With sales so far below expectations, the Chevy Volt should be headed off the market, given that its production numbers are worse than the all-time automotive flop that was Ford's Edsel. And yet, there are two unique entities, aside from General Motors, that are determined to keep it afloat: the U.S. federal government and General Electric.

Stacking the Deck for His Favorites

President Obama admires a Chevy Volt - Source: White House
It's easy to understand why the federal government under President Obama is so keen to use its power to make the Chevrolet Volt a success, as so many of President Obama's other green technology investments have failed. Here, to help stack the deck in the Chevy Volt's favor, President Obama has mandated that the vehicles that automakers produce must increase their average gasoline fuel efficiency to 35.5 miles per gallon by 2016, which will rise to an average of 54.6 miles per gallon by 2025.
By contrast, the average new vehicle fuel economy in February 2012 was 23.7 miles per gallon. Unless automakers like GM produce vehicles like the Chevrolet Volt in mass quantities and in very short order, they will have to pay large penalties to the federal government based upon how far below the fuel economy standard that their vehicles fall. As an established product on the market today, the Chevy Volt stands to benefit from the President's Obama's fuel economy mandate.
More interesting though is General Electric, itself a major federal bailout recipient in 2009, and a company whose nearly every product relies upon the federal government's contracts, mandates, subsidies and other support for its revenue.
Unable to compete in the marketplace independently of such government assistance, GE relies upon its close contacts with federal officials to sustain its revenues - using its influence to lobby for favorable legislation, affect regulations and their enforcement, and also to create special tax breaks from which it benefits.
That level of influence was kicked up a notch during the Obama administration as GE's CEO, Jeffrey Immelt, became a close adviser of President Obama, serving as the chairman of the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness.
Here, just months after the Volt had a major setback with a number of vehicle fires, General Electric announced in February 2012 that it would acquire nearly 12,000 Chevy Volts by 2015, and the sudden surge in sales for the Chevy Volt in March 2012 likely reflects a large number of GE managers and employees purchasing the car.
GE's motivating factor in supporting the Chevy Volt at such a critical time is fairly transparent. GE collects 10% of every dollar invested in electric vehicles.
On a side note, the ever-tax credit conscious company would also cash in on the $7,500 federal tax credit for each of its Chevy Volt purchases. For the full total of 12,000 Volts that GE has indicated it would purchase by 2015, the company will receive a total of $90 million back from the federal government. The gains for the company would be only greater if President Obama's 2012 budget proposal to increase the tax credit to $10,000 had gone anywhere.
GE then has a very direct stake in making sure the Chevy Volt succeeds in the market. If the Chevy Volt flops, a political change in Washington D.C. could derail President Obama's mandated fuel economy standards that are critical to GE's current business strategy.
As your "ecoimagination" might tell you, GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt is a major fan of automotive fuel economy standards, and since he has clearly had the President's ear, he has every incentive to use his special connection to push for standards that would force the adoption of the products GE manufactures. And if that means buying up to 12,000 Chevy Volts over the next three years to help keep its production line from permanently shutting down, and helping President Obama avoid the embarrassment of yet another green energy failure in the process, all the better for business in the Crony Capitalists Club.
Whether or not any of that is in the best interest of regular Americans is another matter. Clearly, despite President Obama's wishes that they should drive Chevrolet Volts, they are so far very determined to not do so.
It would be one thing if it were only GE, GM and individual American consumers who were involved, but under President Obama's federal government, every American taxpayer is being forced to contribute to all this waste for no meaningful purpose other than benefiting the members of the club. Instead, we find that the time, effort and resources being devoted toward putting Americans in Chevy Volts is proving to be economically destructive, especially when you consider that just about anything else would be a better use of these scarce resources.

Among Military Veterans: Romney 59% Obama 35%

Rasmussen ^ | 7/22/2012 | Scott Rasmussen

Most military veterans don’t like the job President Obama is doing and prefer Mitt Romney in November’s election.

New Rasmussen Reports polling finds that 59% of Likely U.S. Voters who have served in the military favor the Republican challenger, while 35% support the president. Five percent (5%) of these voters like some other candidate in the race, but only two percent (2%) are undecided.

The national telephone survey of 574 Voters who have served in the military was conducted by Rasmussen Reports from July 9-15, 2012. The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 4 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.

ABC's Brian Ross and a press that disregards reputations of those it covers!

The Baltimore Sun ^ | July 21, 2012 | David Zurawik

Journalistic mistakes are easy to make in the immediate wake of events like the horrific shootings last week in a movie theater in Colorado.

But the stampede to speed is only part of the problem. I believe the media malfeasance also includes a disregard for the reputations of the people on whom we report. To me, that is the mortal sin. We in the mass media have tremendous power to harm reputations if we are not careful – and we seem to be getting less and less careful until it must look to the public as if we couldn’t care less.

Ross, ABC News’ chief investigative reporter, told viewers that there’s “a Jim Holmes, of Aurora, Colorado, page on the Colorado Tea Party site.” Furthermore, he added that it includes him “talking about joining the Tea Party last year.”
Ross did qualify the report saying, “Now, we don't know if this is the same Jim Holmes, but it is Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado.”
So, why put it out there in the first place, if you don’t have it nailed down? And in this case, it was indeed the wrong Jim Holmes -- and Ross and ABC had to publish a correction and apology.
“Several million people saw Brian’s initial statement this morning, but how many saw the retraction and apology?” he countered. “I can’t explain how outraged I am by this ‘reporting’, but what can you do? They issue a quick apology, no one in the media faces any consequences, and they go back to doing what they always do.”
ABC News declined comment Friday beyond the statement of correction and apology.

Regulation Nation: Federal regulations cost economy $1.75 trillion

Confounded Interest ^ | 07/22/2012 | Anthony B. Sanders

The +Labor Department reported today that applications for jobless benefits increased by 34,000 to 386,000 in the week ended July 14th. Economists had forecast 365,000, so this was a big swing and a miss (in baseball parlance).

On a non seasonally adjusted (NSA) basis, you can seen a troubling trend:

Continuing jobless claims rose to 3,314,000 which is higher than the forecast of 3,300,000. Another big swing and a miss.
Bloomberg’s Consumer Comfort Index fell t0 -37.9. Consumer Comfort has not been a winner for The President.
And the Philadelphia Fed Business Outlook Survey for General Conditions fell to -12.9 and expectations of -8.0. Another big SWOOSH.
Am I surprised? Not in the least. We are now so over-regulated and are about to be so massively over taxed that businesses are scared. Take Dodd-Frank for example. is only 30% complete and already 8,843 pages of rules and regulations have been written. At this pace, Dodd-Frank will weigh in at about 30,000 pages when complete!
Throw in EPA regulations and the murder of the coal fired power plants (and coal industry) and you can see why American businesses are outsourcing to other countries. It is TOO EXPENSIVE TO DO BUSINESS IN THE UNITED STATES.
A report released by the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) reveals that the cost of government regulation is $1.75 TRILLION. Bear in mind that the regulatory cost is 48 percent of the budget of the Federal government. Furthermore, regulatory costs are almost ten times the total of all corporate taxes collected and almost double the total collected from individual income taxes. Let’s see how the Dodd-Frank final list of banking commandments increases the Federal register.
How about a change in game plan?

Reason to Hate: Barack Obama’s Racist Roots

Accuracy In Media ^ | July 17, 2012 | Rusty Weiss and Cliff Kincaid

The morning after Election Day, 2008, The New York Times proclaimed that Barack Obama’s victory had swept “away the last racial barrier in American politics.” However, as the President’s first term draws to a close, a case can be made that the historic election was anything but post-racial; rather, it has been the most racially polarizing presidency in modern times.

This is not a surprise, however, to those familiar with Obama’s background and thinking on racial matters, nor to those who have studied the role played by Communist Frank Marshall Davis in raising him as a young man in Hawaii during his critical coming of age period. Davis was not only a slavish follower of Joseph Stalin, but a black racist who saw sinister white plots in the foreign policies of the United States and other Western nations.

Davis, a poet and writer, had written a controversial poem, “Christ is a Dixie Nigger,” dismissing the object of the Christian faith as “another New White Hope.”
Obama’s own book, Dreams from My Father, talks about asking “Frank” for advice when his white grandmother had been accosted by a black panhandler. Davis told Obama that his grandmother was right to be scared and that “She understands that black people have reason to hate.”
Paul Kengor’s new book, The Communist. Frank Marshall Davis: The Untold Story of Barack Obama’s Mentor, examines the Davis mentality and ideology which shaped Obama in more detail. As Kengor’s book documents, Davis:
•Considered American racism a “disease” that “Red Russia” had solved •Wrote in a column on July 20, 1946, that the Soviet Union had, “in less than a generation,” abolished “discrimination and racism” •Wrote that “the only people” Winston Churchill cared about were “the white people of the British empire”(continued)

Romney over Obama in New York Times poll

The Examiner ^ | July 21, 2012 | Dwight L. Schwab, Jr.

When the New York Times produce a poll showing a Republican in the lead, that in itself is news. That's exactly what the legendary liberal flagship of the Democratic Party printed this week.
Economic concerns are clearly the foremost issue on voters minds.

The new poll shows Romney clearly in front for the first time since becoming the presumptive Republican nominee. Even after months of negative advertising and attacks on his position at Bain Capital, Romney is clearly in the lead over incumbent Barack Obama.
The New York Times/CBS News Poll provided opinions on President Obama's handling of the economy and the dramatic shift that has taken place since April. Thirty-nine percent approve while 55 percent expressed disapproval. Back in April the numbers were far closer with 44 percent approval to 48 percent negative.
So what does that mean?
The Republicans were well aware that Romney would face ferocious criticism from the press (New York Times, Washington Post, etc.) and Democrats over his highly successful tenure at Bain Capital and his tax returns. Those anxieties have proven to be marginal among registered voters as 45 percent expressed they would vote for Romney today over the 43 percent that would favor Obama.
With undecideds thrown into the mix, Romney wins 47 percent to 46 percent in the poll conducted between July 11 and 16, including 982 registered voters...

OBama’s brave new world - Behind ‘you didn’t build that’

NY Post ^ | July 20, 2012 | MICHAEL A. WALSH

‘If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen”: President Obama’s words last week are likely to haunt his campaign and possibly cost him the election.
The line insulted millions of entrepreneurs, small-business owners, garage inventors and plain old dreamers. (The Post reported this week on a few of the New Yorkers who took exception.)
Of course, Obama supporters have relentlessly pointed out that the instantly viral head-scratcher was preceded by some no-man-is-an-island boilerplate. “If you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. . . somebody along the line gave you some help,” the president said.
And: “There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges.”
But “you didn’t build that” still stands as...
The telegraph, the telephone, the phonograph, the light bulb, the MacBook, the iPhone and the iPad all disprove his thesis. Great inventions are most often conceived by private individuals, sitting alone in a room, not government bureaucrats.
And that’s why Obama’s “gaffe” could well become a focal point of the election — a sharp line of demarcation between a party that stands for collectivism and one that not only celebrates the individual but also gets out of his way.
The president’s been promising “fundamental transformation” of the country since 2008. Altering the relationship between citizen and state is certainly part of that.
Which is why Romney gets to the heart of the matter when he asks: “Do we believe in an America that is great because of government or do we believe in an America that is great because of free people allowed to pursue their dreams?”
And that’s the fall election in a nutshell.

Finally! Veil lifted on Muslim rape epidemic!

WND ^ | July 21, 2012 | Bob Unruh

'They are simply living by the 7th century rules of a desert warrior'

For years there have been reports on blogs, personal testimonials and the like, about what looked like a literal epidemic of rape by Muslim men of both women and children, especially in northern European nations where the Muslim immigrant population is high.

But the disturbing reports rarely rose to the level that would make the general population aware of the dangers that were becoming evident. After all, such a report would be blasted for attacking Islam and discriminating against Muslims.

Until now, when a case from the United Kingdom has proven so egregious it could not be ignored.
The BBC reported that nine men were convicted of child sexual exploitation in Greater Manchester, after they had “groomed” girls as young as 13. But even there, the report identified the convicts only as “Asian” while revealing their victims were white.
The Guardian took one more step and labeled them as “Pakistani,” but it took a lesser-known online news site, The Salfordian, to identify the suspects as “Muslim men” who “plied girls as young as 13 with drink and drugs so they could use them for sex ‘several times a day.’”
Now, the subject that long has been ignored or suppressed finally may be getting the attention a major crime wave would deserve, regardless of the political correctness of the facts.
Officials at The Gatestone Institute, a non-partisan, not-for-profit international policy council and think tank dedicated to educating the public about what the mainstream media fails to report, have spoken up.
In a commentary just days ago, the organization noted that the three-month trial where the “nine Muslim men were found guilty of raping dozens of British children” revealed that “police and social workers in northern England repeatedly refuse

Obama For Sale

Sultan Knish ^ | Saturday, July 21, 2012 Saturday, July 21, 2012 Saturday, July 21, 2012 | Daniel Greenfield

Summer is traditionally a weak shopping season, but lately the bargains just keep on coming. First there was an offer to have dinner with Obama and now a chance to have him there in your family photo. You can bid on an opportunity to wish Obama a happy birthday in person with the present that he likes best... money.

The prices are reasonable, and there are so many ways to buy Obama. You can play the dinner lottery or ask your wedding guests to gift to Obama. The Barack Obama website accepts all payments, Visa, Discover, Master Card, foreign donations and stolen credit cards.

The opportunities are endless. Birthdays, wedding anniversaries, major disasters; everything is just another reminder to give till it hurts. All you have to do is click one of the many buttons beneath the color-tuned hues of Instagram photos of Obama or his worse half smiling while the country slides deeper into poverty and debt.

There's a reason that they call America, "The Land of Opportunity". Sure it's gotten a lot harder to come here and make a fortune with your own business, but buying time with the man at the top has just gotten a lot more affordable. You may not have the big wallet of a Warren Buffett or a George Soros and you won't cash in to the tune of a few billion dollars like they did; but for 25 bucks you might end up briefly exchanging pleasantries with the man who is slowly sending you to the poorhouse.
The designers are working overtime digging up retro fonts that summon up the image of a more prosperous America. There are so many Obama portrait shirts that they will be filling up landfills for generations. More likely, they'll be shipped over to the Third World, along with all the other surplus clothes that people donate once the trend has passed or they no longer fit, and, somewhere in an African village, children in the year 2021 will run around playing in "Obama 2012" t-shirts and Islamic terrorists in the Sahara will execute rebellious women while wearing "Forward" shirts.
You can get a "This is Change" shirt that lists all the things that Obama has done on the back, but the text is too small to read on the website, so, like ObamaCare and Obama 2012, you will have to buy it to find out what's in it and on it.
There's a collar for cats that says, "I Meow for Michelle" and an 85-dollar Vera Wang tote bag with Obama inside a scrawled heart. There's an Obama-themed dog collar, to express the relationship between the administration and its lapdogs, and a t-shirt with an all-red American flag that has a distinctly Soviet feel to it. There's a 65-dollar polo shirt designed by rapper and Farrakhan supporter Russell Simmons; which is just a generic polo shirt with a small Obama logo.
A Joe Biden cup holder sits next to a knit Obama dog sweater, a silver Obama brooch, an Obama basketball jersey, an Obama University hoodie, which has a seal but no motto, along with beanies, keychains, more dog collars, water bottles, tumblers, lanyards, cuff links, duffel bags, tube socks and a dog bowl with the Obama logo inside for your dog to drink out of.
Obama isn't just a politician; he is a Walmart of useless crap. A one-man Ralph Lauren, Abercrombie and Fitch and Ed Hardy with enough t-shirts, polo shirts and bandanas to outfit a small army of young men and women with more credit card limits than taste. And upstairs on the third floor of his cyberspace Target, you can find a plethora of 90-dollar reusable canvas bags from major designers that have become the stamp of consciously responsible consumption.
You can buy Obama and wear Obama all over your body. You can read Obama at the beach, stick him on your toddler, your dog and your cat. You can cover your car, your house and your barn with his stickers. And, if you are truly lucky, you may even win a chance to spend 72 seconds in his presence before you are firmly ushered out to go back to your Obama 2012 car and drive back to your Obama 2012 yard sign where your dog is barking for food in his "Obama Best Friend" collar and then sit down to read through the Help Wanted ads in the paper while wearing an Obama Hope Lapel Pin.
The price of meat has risen sharply, going up by a dollar to a dollar fifty a pound since last summer, and beef consumption has fallen to an all-time low. But that's okay, because you can still grill your burger in an Obama 2012 apron while using an Obama grill spatula to embed the Obama 2012 logo into the meat that your family eats. At 40 bucks, the grill spatula isn't exactly cheap, but it's a bargain compared to what another four years of Obama will cost you. And the burgers with Obama 2012 on them are a date stamped in time, reminding you that, if Obama wins in 2012, pretty soon you won't be able to afford meat at all.
There's an old joke about an honest politician being a man who stays bought. And while you can buy hundreds of dollars worth of ObamaCrap 2012, you don't have the money it takes to buy Obama. That's reserved for the bundlers and the billionaires, who get their payoff in the form of bailouts and stimulus packages. Al Gore gets a 500-million dollar loan to build cars in Finland, Solyndra executives get another 500-million for their 100 thou worth of donations and Warren Buffett gets billions in bailout profits. But you get to take home a 15-dollar dog collar with your master's name on it.
But don't worry, it's only money, your money, and they have to give it away to somebody. Paul Holland, a venture capitalist who sucked up some of that sweet money, described a DOE official walking into the room and announcing, "I’m Matt Rogers I am the Special Assistant to the Secretary of Energy, and I have $134 billion that I have to disperse between now and the end of December.”
"So upon hearing that," Holland said, "I sent an email to my partners that said Matt Rogers is about to get treated like a hooker dropped into a prison exercise yard. And I had the lack of judgment to go up and share that with him and the other people who were all standing around him…Fortunately for me they all laughed and thought it was funny.”
Of course Rogers thought it was funny, because Matt Rogers wasn't the one getting treated like a hooker dropped into a prison exercise yard. The American taxpayer was the one being treated like a hooker in that crony capitalism exercise yard. Rogers, a longtime employee of energy consulting firm McKinsey & Company, who went back there after his brief term dispensing hundreds of billions of dollars, was just the assistant to the pimp-in-chief.
In Hollywood there's a big difference between the movie producer and the guy who buys a ticket. Holland, like Buffett and Soros, is a producer, and, like producers, he shares in the profit of the trillion-dollar production of Obama 2008 and is hoping to share in the boffo box office of Obama 2012. That's a world away from the chumps buying Obama spatulas and dog dishes who can bask in the historicity of a national debt that is so big it might as well come with a dog collar around their necks.
Obama's supporters can buy tickets to the inauguration, buy lottery tickets to win a dinner with Obama or a chance to feel Obama's sweaty arm on their necks for 3.5 seconds in an Instagram photo. They can buy Obama merchandise, share Obama on social media and do all the other free promotional grunt work that fans are tasked with in the social media age, but all they are ever going to be are spectators.
No matter how many shirts reading, "We Are the Ones We Have Been Waiting For" get lugged around an impoverished country by tired UPS men in brown; there has never been a "We" here. Obama is an "I" guy and whatever "We" there is, is strictly limited to the kind of people who don't buy t-shirts, but who buy energy companies and banks.
Obama is for sale, but like the 100-dollar reusable tote bags, you really can't afford him. And unlike the bags, you won't be able to afford him even if you skip a lot of meals this summer. The "Win a Dinner with Obama" and "Win a Family Photo with Obama" and "Win a Lock of Obama's Hair" entries are meant to create the illusion that Obama is affordable. That you can buy access to him the way that you can buy his t-shirt.
While his website pitches branded bangles, running shorts, baby bibs, golf divots, blankets and a "Michelle 2012" gold pin, the real action is happening where the big men and women are being pitched more tangible benefits of another four years from a guy who spent 5 billion dollars a day. An administration which in its first term compelled every American to buy health insurance as a penalty for breathing has a lot to offer its crony capitalist billionaires. And the benefits don't have anything to do with "history"; only with "profitability."
The best con artist makes you pay for the privilege of being robbed. He doesn't just take your money, he convinces you to buy his t-shirt too.

The tea party: Convenient scapegoats!

Politico ^ | 7/22/12 | Katie Glueck

Another act of mass violence, another round of finger-pointing directed at tea party members. When ABC News issued a report Friday suggesting that the horrific shooting at a Colorado movie theater was perpetrated by a suspect with ties to the movement, the situation had a familiar feel to it, tea party leaders say.

Just as in January 2011, when the Tucson shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords sparked speculation that the perpetrator was either affiliated with the tea party or influenced by its anti-government rhetoric, members were again wrongly fingered as possible culprits and forced to defend themselves against the assumption that there might be a link. This time, tea party leaders responded angrily — and with a sense of deep frustration over the latest erroneous connection drawn between their political beliefs and gun violence. As they see it, it’s the latest attempt to demonize the grassroots activists, carried out by a hostile media that’s all-too-willing to believe the worst about them.
